Cardi B is urging her fans not to pick on, harass, or bully rival rapper BIA, even as the two artists remain locked in a longstanding feud.

Speaking on Instagram Live shortly after the BET Awards, Cardi B said that despite performing her diss track aimed at BIA, she does not want to be the reason the other artist has a bad day. The rapper said she is not a bully unless she has to be, adding that she tends to feel bad after going after someone. She said she does not want to keep going after a person who is not bothering her.

“Please don’t pick on that girl. I am very big against internet, like, bullying, unless my fans have to, unless my fans got a drag, I’m with that,” Cardi B said. “But if somebody (is) not bothering me, and I feel like she’s not bothering me, I don’t want to be the reason why somebody gets on the internet and (has) a bad day or get(s) depressed or feel(s) bad or feel(s) like the world is against them, because I really went through that before. I really, really went through that before.”

Cardi B traced that experience to a multiyear stretch of online attention that she said amounted to five years of harassment. “I went through that in 2018 and 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, when all these b—es was against me, when all these blogs was against me, when every single day was a bad viral tweet about me,” she said.

The rapper acknowledged she is willing to confront people who provoke her, but said she often regrets going too far. “I do like teaching b—es a lesson, like, it’s like, you think you could f— with me, b—? I’ll show you,” she said. “But then after a while, like, I’m one of those people that, like, I’ll kill you, and then I feel bad that I killed you and bury you, and then I’ll bury you out, and I’ll be like, ‘My bad that I killed you,’ like, ‘My bad that (I) took you away from your family. I didn’t really mean that, but you really f— with me, so I have to.'”

Still, she said the performance itself will continue. “I’m not gonna stop performing the show,” Cardi B said. “But I just don’t ever want to be the reason why somebody, like, if she don’t f— with me, if somebody don’t f— with me, I don’t want to keep f—ing with them, you know what I’m saying? Because it just gives bullying, and I’m really not a bully unless I have to.”

Despite the appeal to her fans, Cardi B made clear she will not retire the diss track “Pretty & Petty.” During her BET Awards set, she leaned into the song’s pointed lyrics, emphasizing the line “Does she even have a BET Award?” by bringing out six of her own trophies.
