UK-based Romanian actor Catinca Maria Nistor is celebrating her appearance alongside Oscar-winning Dame Helen Mirren in the new film Golda.

The upcoming biopic of Israel’s first female prime minister, Golda Meir, features Mirren in the lead role and focuses on the responsibilities and decisions the ‘Iron Lady of Israel’ faced during the Yom Kippur War of 1973. The film also stars Camille Cottin (House of Gucci, Stillwater) and is directed by Oscar-winning director Guy Nattiv. Golda premieres this month at the Berlin Film Festival.

Catinca said: “As an actor of Romanian descent, it’s a great honor to film with international talent, especially with an A-List star like Helen Mirren. Golda is the fascinating real-life story of a strong woman, and Helen Mirren beautifully portrays this through her incredible skills! To be involved in this process has been absolutely inspiring to me.”

Catinca is one of the first Romanian actresses to work with iconic names in the world of film and she’s excited for what’s to come.

Catinca’s work to date includes the Romanian TV show Woman Above All, highlighting women making outstanding contributions to the world, and a current run of A Doll’s House Part 2 at the Metropolis Theatre in Bucharest. Catinca’s theatre credits also include Romanian productions of Richard III & Love’s Labour’s Lost (directed by Andrei Serban) as well as leading roles in Romanian stagings of Les Miserables and Footloose musicals.
