China Anne McClain to Make Broadway Debut in ‘The Great Gatsby’

China Anne McClain will step into the role of Daisy Buchanan in Broadway’s The Great Gatsby, and Ryan McCartan will take over the part of Jay Gatsby.

McCartan will make his comeback on July 27, succeeding Reeve Carney, whose performance ends on July 26. This will be McCartan’s fourth turn as Gatsby.

McClain will make her debut as Daisy on August 3rd. Eva Noblezada, who initially played Daisy on Broadway, will give her last performance as Daisy on July 26 at the Broadway Theatre. Senzel Ahmady, who plays Daisy in the national tour, will cover for McClain from July 27 to August 3.

McCartan debuted on Broadway in 2018, portraying Fiyero in Wicked, and then played Hans in the 2020 Broadway production of Disney’s Frozen. McCartan originated the role of J.D. in Heathers: The Musical (Off-Broadway) and played Brad Majors in the musical film adaptation of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, produced by Fox. McCartan started his stage career on Disney Channel’s Liv and Maddie as Diggie Smalls.

McClain, another alumnus of the Disney Channel, appeared in A.N.T. Farm and the Descendants films (Descendants 2, Descendants 3, Descendants: The Rise of Red, and Descendants: Wicked World). Moreover, she starred in the television series Black Lightning and Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.

In addition to Carney as Gatsby and Noblezada as Daisy, Broadway’s The Great Gatsby also stars Corbin Bleu as Nick Carraway and Samantha Pauly as Jordan Baker. Another actor, Naturi Naughton-Lewis, will be joining on July 31. The cast also includes John Behlmann as Tom Buchanan, Linedy Genao as Myrtle Wilson, Charlie Pollock as George Wilson, and Matthew Saldívar as Meyer Wolfsheim.

The novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, with music and lyrics by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen and a book by Kait Kerrigan, inspired ” The Great Gatsby. Marc Bruni directs the production, and Dominique Kelley serves as its choreographer.
