Chloe Cherry, an adult film actor before joining HBO’s Euphoria show, is questioning an unrealistic portrayal of sex workers in popular culture.
Cherry portrays Faye Valentine on the drama series. In her recent comments on a plot development featuring Cassie becoming involved in sex work, she says it is “crazy as fuck” considering that Cassie was raised in comfort.
Speaking to Refinery29, Cherry questions the idea that getting financially empowered through social media sites like OnlyFans is easy.
“People have the weirdest ideas and fantasies of sex work being like, so empowering, and we’ve seen all these news stories where they’re like, ‘Oh, OnlyFans model makes $700 billion in a month,’ and everyone’s like, ‘whoa,'” Cherry said.
She further questions whether these ideas reflect reality, adding that she thinks they might not be true. “I don’t even really understand what it means to be on OnlyFans, honestly, I don’t even really know what people are doing on there,” she added.
Cherry began appearing on Euphoria in its second season.
