An online video in which an influencer calls out Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., has gone viral, with most of the criticism directed at Omar’s appearance and delivery rather than the content of her comments.
Savanna Cannon uploaded the video onto her Instagram profile, where she states that Omar is not deserving of being called a congresswoman and is”a fraud.” She accused her of coming “to the USA to corrupt its people and resources” and claimed that Omar’s net worth has risen from $65,000 to $30 million due to a mere accounting error.
Furthermore, she raised doubts about a winery associated with Omar, which, according to her, had “no clear location, no wine at all, no phone number, no visible operations.” Cannon stated that Omar had offended a reporter for questioning her about the winery and added that she insults people by calling World War II “World War 11.”
“She is the opposite of everything that we stand for in this country,” Cannon stated. She reiterated a false claim that Omar married her brother.
Ilhan Omar has repeatedly denied the allegation, which has circulated for years without any proof. The financial information provided in the video has not been independently corroborated.
The video came out while Cannon was wearing a tight purple outfit, which became a significant focus of online outrage.
A commentator noted how different the recent female voices were from five years ago, when “we had brilliant conservative female thought leaders like Michelle Malkin blowing the lid open on mass migration,” and criticized the present generation of female conservative commentators for offering shallow takes on Muslims. She used a vulgar word to refer to them.
Another commentator stated that he predicted this trend, mentioning a video series which, according to him, deals with “twerking and politics.” He called the combination of sex appeal and commentary on Somali immigration “wild.”
“This is actually cringe, and I’m second-hand embarrassed for her,” commented another person.
Cannon did not immediately address the backlash. Omar’s office also did not release a statement.
