Courtney Clenney, an OnlyFans model charged with fatally stabbing her boyfriend in their Miami condo in 2022, has reportedly reached a plea bargain with prosecutors, according to TMZ. As per the report, the deal settles the case without going to trial.
The 30-year-old Clenney had pleaded not guilty to the charge of second-degree murder with a weapon and was facing the possibility of spending life behind bars. It was not clear what Clenney would be pleading to or what the sentence would be under the deal.
As per prosecutors, Clenney stabbed her boyfriend, Christian “Toby” Obumseli, 27, in the chest during an altercation on April 3, 2022, at their Miami condo in the city’s Edgewater neighborhood. While Clenney did not deny stabbing Obumseli, she claimed that she had done so in self-defense following domestic violence, according to Court TV.
According to police reports, Clenney told authorities that she had thrown a kitchen knife at Obumseli from around ten feet away. However, the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner concluded that the wound could not have resulted from a knife being thrown from the said distance. State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said that the autopsy results indicated a stab wound from close range, reported the Miami Herald.
Clenney was arrested on August 10, 2022, in Hawaii, four months after the murder. Her lawyer at the time, Frank Prieto, stated that she had traveled to Hawaii to seek treatment for her substance abuse and trauma problems. Clenney waived extradition and has been held without bond ever since.
The case had several delays. Clenney’s lawyers moved to disqualify the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office due to allegations of accessing privileged conversations, destroying evidence, and concealing a witness, reported Court TV. Additionally, the lead prosecutor in the case had stepped down after disagreements over seizing a laptop. In July 2024, computer crimes charges against Clenney and her parents, Kim and Deborah Clenney, were dismissed, FOX 7 Austin reported.
A trial was scheduled for April 27 but was delayed. According to Judge Andrea Ricker Wolfson, another delay of the case would be necessary. Both parties had hoped for a trial in August.
In the most recent court filing, Clenney’s lawyers said that she would claim self-defense and battered spouse defense, and they sought admission of the 2020 arrest warrant against Obumseli from Austin, Texas. However, prosecutors disagreed with Clenney’s version of events and referred to the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s findings.
The family of Obumseli had filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Clenney, claiming that Clenney was the aggressor in the relationship, reported Court TV.
Clenney, who was known online as Courtney Tailor and had around 2 million Instagram followers, had earned over $1.8 million from OnlyFans in 2021, prosecutors said.
