Did Amelia Dimoldenberg Just Call Ed Sheeran a Puppet? Her SNL UK Monologue Has Fans Talking

British presenter Amelia Dimoldenberg delivered a witty jibe at Ed Sheeran while introducing Saturday Night Live UK.

Dimoldenberg hosted the third episode of the second series of Sky’s sketch show, featuring indie pop artist Rachel Chinouriri.

“It’s so great to be here hosting Saturday Night Live UK,” Dimoldenberg said as the audience cheered. “My name is Amelia Dimoldenberg. You might know me from my YouTube show where I date celebrities in a chicken shop. It’s called Chicken Shop Date.”

Right away, Dimoldenberg brought up the fact that the show is going to be discontinued, which she had mentioned recently.

“And I don’t know if you saw, but I’m deciding to end the show,” she said. “There’s been loads of rumors as to around why. And I’m here to tell you the truth. I found out something devastating. Apparently, these celebrities weren’t coming on to date me. They were coming on to promote their work. It makes so much more sense now.”

Dimoldenberg cited one of her well-known guests as an example.

“Andrew Garfield had a film out,” she continued amid laughter. “When he kept saying, ‘I’m looking forward to the big release,’ I thought that was a s*x thing.”

Next, she compared the British variant of the NBC institution to chicken shops she preferred while shooting the show.

“Whilst filming, my favorite chicken shops were always the ones that were nearly KFC,” she said. “Like PFC, DFC, CFC. It’s basically KFC without the same history, reputation, or star quality. Which is why I wanted to host SNL UK.”

She also seemed to dig at Sheeran when she mentioned some of her famous interviewees.

“I’m incredibly privileged to have done so many interviews with people like Idris Elba, Cher and even a world-famous redheaded puppet with a hand up his a** telling him what to say,” Dimoldenberg said. “No, the other one.”

Recalling her youth center where the show’s idea originated, Dimoldenberg made fun of herself.

“As the show comes to an end, I’ve been reminiscing on the youth center where the idea started,” she said. “I grew up in central London, which I know is weird. No one is from central. My local is the M&M’s store and my first kiss was Peter Andre at Madame Tussauds.”

However, she became serious soon.

“But the youth center is where I really found my voice and learned to be who I am. And that’s why I think they’re so important,” she said. “I was so lucky to be given the chance to find out who I was. It taught me that I am an awkward girl and there’s no shame in that. Just huge profit.”

Finally, Dimoldenberg ended with a message to “all the other awkward girls out there,” along with a brief tour of her recent projects.

“I am proof that you don’t have to stop being awkward to be successful. That it isn’t a hindrance and it’s something that should be celebrated. I am proof that you should always be yourself,” she said. “Be yourself on Chicken Shop Date. Be yourself at the Oscars red carpet. Be yourself in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Be yourself in your upcoming romcom. Be yourself in all of the sketches during Saturday Night Live UK. Just like the chickens I love to eat, you don’t have to have range.”

“We have a great show for you tonight,” she concluded. “Rachel Chinouriri is here. Stick around and watch this.”
