Self-proclaimed San Antonio Spurs fan Selena Gomez took to Instagram in the aftermath of the Knicks’ historic Game 4 comeback victory over the Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals. Gomez shared a series of Instagram stories that some saw as a passive-aggressive jab at celebrity courtside fans of the other team.
The Knicks overturned a 29-point deficit to beat the Spurs and take a 3-1 series lead. Among celebrities at the game cheering on New York were Taylor Swift, Hailey Bieber, Kylie Jenner, and Tate McRae.
Gomez is from Texas and has been an outspoken Spurs fan for a long time. Her post read, “Happy for NY but my heart breaks just a lil lol It’s ok. I’m happy for the teams! Thanks for giving us some great games @nba”
A Selena Gomez stan account later circulated a screenshot of what was allegedly an Instagram story, which was later deleted, supposedly written by Gomez, reading, “Mad respect for the game!! Congrats to the peeps that represent! What a come back.” There was no independent verification of the screenshot of the story.
Earlier, Gomez posted a screenshot of a private group chat, which many on social media saw as an apparent slight against friends and family who were now rooting for New York.
These comments sparked speculation on social media, where people began suggesting that Gomez was subtweeting about her high-profile friends who are allegedly bandwagoning for New York.
