In celebration of World Cerebral Palsy Day, Disney+ is surprising fans with a trailer and key art from its upcoming original movie Out of My Mind. Based on the bestselling novel by Sharon M. Draper, the film centers around brilliant sixth grader Melody Brooks, who’s often misunderstood because she can’t speak due to her cerebral palsy diagnosis. The film releases exclusively on Disney+ on November 22, 2024.

It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and follows her struggle through mainstream education and the misconceptions of those around her. Melody’s nonverbal status and wheelchair did not slow her from having a sharp wit and prevailing, especially when a young educator took notice of her potential.

Newcomer Phoebe-Rae Taylor plays Melody, with an excellent cast comprising Rosemarie DeWitt, Luke Kirby, Michael Chernus, Courtney Taylor, and Judith Light. Adding further variance and originality to the character’s inner battles and victories is Jennifer Aniston, who provides the voice for Melody’s inner voice.

The movie is a production of Disney Branded Television in association with Big Beach LLC, Participant Films LLC, and EveryWhere Studios LLC. It boasts big production names. The production is headed by Academy Award® nominee Peter Saraf with Robert Kessel, Dan Angel, and Michael B. Clark. Amber Sealey directs from a screenplay adapted by Daniel Stiepleman, who wrote the screenplay based on Sex. Jeff Skoll, Eddie Rubin, and disability advocates Richard Ellenson and Lawrence Carter-Long executive produce, ensuring an authentic and sensitive portrayal of the cerebral palsy community.

In conjunction with the film’s release, Disney+ promotes awareness of cerebral palsy through a partnership with the global movement marked on October 6 called World Cerebral Palsy Day, giving further emphasis to the inclusive nature of this film.
