With over 110 million hours streamed to date, the series has captured the hearts and imaginations of people all over the world.
The upcoming season promises a thrilling new adventure based on Rick Riordan’s second book, “The Sea of Monsters,” with the return of brilliant cast members Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri.
Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Rich in magic, wonder, adventure, and heart, ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ captivated the imaginations of viewers of all ages everywhere.” The sentiment was echoed by Rick Riordan himself, who exclaimed, “Raise anchors. Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!”
The series’ success is clear from its impressive audience statistics. The first episode ranked among the top five season openers of 2023, with an amazing 26.2 million views in its first three weeks on Disney+ and Hulu.
The social media impact has been equally impressive, with the #percyjackson hashtag receiving over 1 billion views on TikTok in the United States during the last 30 days. The series’ social media handles have also accumulated 4.6 million followers.
The impact of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” goes beyond the screen. Following the premiere of the program, the novels, published by Disney Hyperion, recovered the top spot on the New York Times Bestseller list for the Middle Grade series.
Furthermore, Disney Consumer Products has capitalized on the success, with Hot Topic launching a line of clothes and Barnes & Noble releasing stationery inspired by the successful series.
Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Jonathan E. Steinberg, and a gifted group of creatives executive produced the first season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” which was conceived by Riordan and Steinberg.
The excitement for the Sea of Monsters adventure in season two is expected to grow over the next several months as the first season of Disney+ continues to attract viewers.
