In a captivating revelation at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Los Angeles, Disney+ announced today that its highly anticipated original series, “Renegade Nell,” is set to premiere all eight episodes on March 29, 2024, exclusively on the streaming platform.
Crafted by BAFTA-award-winning writer Sally Wainwright, known for her work on “Happy Valley,” and helmed by lead director Ben Taylor from “Sex Education,” “Renegade Nell” promises a thrilling journey into 18th-century England.
The narrative centers around Nell Jackson, portrayed by Louisa Harland of “Derry Girls,” a sharp-witted and fearless young woman who becomes an unwitting outlaw after being framed for murder. The unexpected twist in her fate comes when a magical spirit named Billy Blind appears, leading Nell to realize her destiny extends beyond the ordinary.
The ensemble cast boasts a stellar lineup, including Frank Dillane as Charles Devereux, Alice Kremelberg as Sofia Wilmot, Ényì Okoronkwo as Rasselas, Jake Dunn as Thomas Blancheford, Bo Bragason as Roxy Trotter, Florence Keen as George Trotter, and the versatile Nick Mohammed as Billy Blind. Joely Richardson and Adrian Lester also join the cast, enhancing the series with their roles as Lady Eularia Moggerhangar and Robert Hennessey, Earl of Poynton, respectively. Pip Torrens and Craig Parkinson round out the ensemble as Lord Blancheford and Sam Trotter.
Produced by Lookout Point, “Renegade Nell” is backed by an experienced team of executive producers, including Sally Wainwright, Ben Taylor, Faith Penhale, Will Johnston, Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, and Johanna Devereaux for Disney+. Amanda Brotchie and MJ Delaney contribute their directing prowess to the series, while Jon Jennings takes the role of Series Producer and Stella Merz serves as Producer.
