In deciding if Lindsay Clancy should be considered guilty for the murders of her three children, jurors are testing the character of people miles away from the courthouse, including those on dates.

Ann Havenly said in a TikTok video that her dating screen will start with one question, and the wrong answer ends the date.

“My new vetting process for if I wanna date a man, first date question I’m always going to be asking him is, do you think that Lindsay Clancy should go to jail for what she did?” Havenly said. “And if that man says yes, I’m getting up and walking out right then and there. I cannot spend the rest of my life with someone who thinks that that woman is guilty and deserves jail.”

Lindsay Clancy, 36, a former labor and delivery nurse, faces charges of three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her children Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months. Clancy murdered her children by strangling them using exercise bands and dumping their bodies in the basement of their family house in Duxbury, which is a coastal town south of Boston, on January 24, 2023. She attempted to commit suicide by jumping from the second-floor window of her house, and Clancy became paralyzed below the waist after the attempt.

Lindsay Clancy admits she killed her children. However, the jury must decide whether she can be charged. Jurors must determine whether she can be held legally responsible.

Her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, says that Lindsay was under postpartum psychosis and had been overmedicated. But prosecutors Jennifer Sprague and Shanan Buckingham argue that she committed the killings on purpose, sent her husband Patrick Clancy to buy food and medicine to have some time alone with her children, and staged the suicide attempt.

The defense lawyer finished his part of the evidence presentation on Friday after calling 10 witnesses, ending roughly four weeks of testimony. Reddington’s last witness was the forensic psychiatrist Dr. Phillip Resnick, who stated that Clancy was clearly psychotic the day her children were murdered. Dr. Resnick was a major witness in the 2001 trial of Andrea Yates, who was found not guilty by reason of insanity of murdering her five children.

The prosecution began their rebuttal. The prosecution’s first witness, Dr. Avram Mack, a psychiatrist who examined Clancy in April, testified that she knew what was right and wrong when she murdered the children.

Closing arguments are expected to be given either on Monday or Tuesday, Judge William Sullivan said. All jurors should reach a verdict unanimously. Clancy will be sentenced to life imprisonment if she is found guilty. But if jurors determine she was not criminally responsible, the court will initiate procedures for commitment to psychiatric treatment.
