A former middle school teacher was reportedly arrested Thursday in New Jersey on eight charges stemming from an alleged misconduct case involving a student in 2021, authorities announced.

According to the report, Ashley Fisler, 36, the former teacher of Orchard Valley Middle School in Sewell, New Jersey, has been charged with six counts of first-degree sexual assault of a minor, one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of second-degree official misconduct of a public servant. Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns announced the charges.

According to the court records, the case was initiated on Jan. 23, 2026, when the victim, an adult, came forward to report an illegal sexual relationship with the teacher, which occurred when the victim was still a minor and a student. The victim reportedly told the authorities about the multiple sexual encounters she experienced with the teacher, believed to have occurred in 2021, including in the teacher’s car and inside the teacher’s classroom. The law enforcement authorities also found the teacher’s text messages with the victim, which corroborated the victim’s story.

In a statement, the Washington Township Public Schools Superintendent Eric M. Hibbs said, “The district is aware of the charges announced by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office regarding a former middle school teacher. We take matters involving the safety and well-being of our students extremely seriously. The individual referenced is no longer employed by the district and separated from employment in April 2023. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and will continue to do so. Because this is an active criminal matter, we are unable to comment further at this time.”

According to the report, the former teacher faces up to 20 years in prison for each of the six first-degree charges of sexual assault of a minor and up to 10 years for the second-degree charges.
