Apple TV+ has released a thrilling first look at the highly anticipated second season of Surface, the global phenomenon psychological thriller. Star and executive producer Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Morning Show, Loki) returns for the second season, which premieres Friday, February 21, 2025, with new episodes streaming weekly through April 11, 2025.
Created by Veronica West (High Fidelity), the second season relocates to London, where Sophie (Mbatha-Raw) continues her relentless quest for the truth about her past. Still recovering from an injury which wiped her memory, Sophie utilizes her pilfered fortune to infiltrate the echelons of British society. Her journey leads her to discover a connection with a reclusive heiress, but then an unexpected call from a journalist uncovers a shocking scandal that involves Sophie in dangerous circles. Returning cast members Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Haunting of Hill House) and Millie Brady (The Last Kingdom) are joined by a stellar lineup of new talent, including Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso), Gavin Drea (Wedding Season), Rupert Graves (Sherlock), Tara Fitzgerald (Game of Thrones), Nina Sosanya (Good Omens), Joely Richardson (The Sandman), and Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire).
Produced by Apple Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, Surface is created, written, and showrun by Veronica West, who remains at the helm of the series. Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter executive produce alongside Mbatha-Raw. Episodes this season are directed by the incredible Ed Lilly, Jon East, Lynsey Miller, and Alrick Riley.
Since its premiere, Surface has been hailed as “engrossing” and “elevated,” with critics praising the show’s complex storytelling and Mbatha-Raw’s captivating performance. With its new London setting and deeper layers of intrigue, season two promises even more twists, secrets, and suspense.
