The secret’s out! Gabriel Leone will play Ayrton Senna da Silva (1960-1994) in Senna.

For the first time, the Netflix miniseries will portray the story of the adventure and triumph of the man who became a Brazilian national hero and conquered the world both on and off the Formula 1 track.

The film, produced by Gullane, has the active participation of the driver’s family with Brazilian filmmaker Vicente Amorim as showrunner, who also directs the series with Julia Rezende.

“It is a huge responsibility and also a great honor to be able to represent an icon who inspired so many people throughout his life, showing the world Brazilian sporting talent,” says Leone. “Knowing that we will bring this story to millions of people in so many countries, through Netflix, inspires me to see this as one of the great roles of my career.”

“Gabriel Leone has Senna’s charisma, intensity, and gentleness,” says Amorim. “We were thrilled with how he brought Ayrton to life at his screen test. He is a Brazilian actor who is an emerging international star,” adds producer Fabiano Gullane. “He has the ability to faithfully portray Ayrton’s unique personality, especially the Ayrton that we as a family knew, off the track,”  Viviane Senna, Ayrton’s sister, enthused.

Over the six episodes, Senna will reveal the personality and personal relationships of the three-time F1 champion, showing the trajectory of his triumphs, disappointments, joys, and sorrows. It begins in the early days of Ayrton’s motorsport career when he moves to England to compete in the Ford Formula, concluding with the tragic accident in Imola, Italy, during the San Marino Grand Prix.
