Lily Phillips has discussed safety threats linked to her growing popularity. One such example is a late-night encounter in which a middle-aged man visited Phillips’ apartment to talk to her.
24-year-old Lily Phillips spoke about stalking, parasocial relationships, and personal safety issues during an interview on Stan’s “Turned On: Dirty Sexy Money” show.
During the latest episode, Phillips stated that getting a stalker is one of her greatest fears. She recalled how a man in his 40s came to her house in the middle of the night and asked to be greeted via her security camera.
“Obviously, for any 24-year-old woman living alone, this is super scary, but it’s especially scary when I work in the adult industry because I didn’t have a clue what his intentions were and if things would escalate,” she said. “Luckily, they didn’t.”
However, earlier she said that the people visiting her apartment were young adults who only wanted to make fun of her.
Phillips said that her security concerns increased along with her fame. As Phillips pointed out, expressing her personality on social networks increases interaction with followers but can lead to parasocial relationships.
Obsessive behavior is usually underestimated in the adult industry. Phillips shared her modest experience; however, she heard many stories from her friends working in this field. Parasocial relationships are a major issue for celebrities, but it is especially alarming for sex workers due to the intentions of some of their fans.
According to Phillips, almost everyone watching her video believes that she is the one she plays in it. Almost every time she visits public places, someone asks her for something. Although this is her job, she disagrees with the idea that she should be available at any time in her personal life.
However, not all the parasocial relations are negative, Phillips said, and most of her followers behave respectfully.
“Having a parasocial relationship with someone you watch online isn’t automatically unhealthy,” she said. But the trouble begins when people forget that it is one-sided and start violating boundaries.
Phillips’ reaction to the situation in which her fellow creator, Annie Knight, was the victim of a break-in on the same program prompted her to consider her own safety and take steps to increase it. She admitted that she was naive.
According to Phillips, she protects herself through restricting information about herself, using security staff, living behind gates, using privacy fencing, and setting boundaries for fans. At the same time, she considers these measures to be normal for a woman.
However, Phillips said that choosing public activity meant facing public attention, but not the harassment or the inability to lead a private life. This is the issue of a small percentage of people forgetting boundaries.
But she still tries to maintain her relationships with fans and protect herself.
