A long-standing continuity glitch in the popular series Game of Thrones is once again being discussed online by its fans, who are focusing on a major inaccuracy involving the character of Melisandre. In a post on the social media app X, a user asked, “Can someone explain why Melisandre wasn’t old in the bath without her necklace? 🤔” The user was referring to Game of Thrones Season 4, Episode 3, in which the character played by Carice van Houten is shown bathing without the famous necklace, but still appears young.
However, in Season 6, Episode 1, the character is shown removing the same necklace and instantly transforming into an older woman, indicating that the red gem was the source of the glamor that kept her real age hidden through magic. The inaccuracy was a long-standing one.
Later, in an interview, the show’s makers, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, admitted the show’s inaccuracy. According to the makers, the exact glamor effect of the necklace had not been finalized in earlier seasons of the show.
The inaccuracy in the show is still being brought up by Game of Thrones fans online. Many theories are circulating online about the show’s inaccuracy. One user jokingly wrote, “I don’t know, I’m also young when I’m in the bath without my necklace.”
Another user criticized the show’s direction and wrote, “Whenever the showrunners thought they could do better than Martin and wrote something original, it was pure trash?” The popular HBO series Game of Thrones, based on the novels by George R. R. Martin, remains one of the most popular series in the world. Despite the series being scrutinized by its fans for many years, the inaccuracy regarding the character of Melisandre remains unresolved.
