A teacher from Alexander High School was arrested on Thursday after he was charged with felony offenses against a child at school. This comes after an investigation conducted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
According to jail records accessed by Fox News, Maris Nichols, who is 25 years old, has been charged with sexual assault by a person in a position of supervisory or disciplinary authority. He was arrested by police officers at the Douglas County Jail on May 7th.
Nichols is accused of sexually abusing the victim in two incidents: one in a school locker room on April 23rd, and another in a motor car on May 2nd, according to the sheriff’s office.
It was revealed that a staff member at the Douglas County School System had been placed on leave amid a probe that led to Nichols’s arrest. The district explained that it took prompt action after receiving the report about the incident.
“Upon learning of the alleged misconduct, the district immediately launched an investigation,” the Douglas County School System informed.
The district refused to provide any additional information about the case and urged that further questions be posed to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
“The Douglas County School System will continue to cooperate fully with state and local law enforcement. The district cannot provide additional information regarding the allegations. Any further inquiries should be directed to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office,” the Douglas County School System explained.
The sheriff’s office announced that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
