A Georgia high school social teacher, Bradley Willems, has been fired after a video surfaced in which he directed a racial slur toward a 14-year-old black student after an altercation occurred in class.

Willems, a social studies teacher at Newnan High School, can be heard using the n-word toward the student after a disagreement over how long it took the student to remove his beanie to protect his locs from getting in his eyes.

After investigating the situation, officials from the Coweta County School System said that Willems has since been terminated.

The student’s mother shared the video on Facebook, saying the teacher was aggressive and that no child should ever be made to feel humiliated or degraded at school.

“As a mother, hearing a teacher call my son that word in front of an entire classroom is heartbreaking and unacceptable,” the mother said in a statement. “This situation has affected my son and our family.”

“Silence protects behavior like this,” she added.

Further statements by the student’s mother revealed that Willems had also referred to her son as “boy” and told him to “get the f— out” of the room.

The student’s father admitted that his son was using profanity, but said the teacher could have handled the situation better anyway.

The family has withdrawn their son from the school, and he will continue his studies from home until the end of the semester.
