Gigi Hadid was arrested and fined for marijuana possession last week while vacationing in the Cayman Islands, according to TMZ.
Following their arrest on July 10 at Owen Roberts International Airport, the 28-year-old supermodel and a friend were later released. This was reported by E! News, citing a Cayman Islands Customs & Border Control spokesperson.
They claim that marijuana and “utensils used for the consumption of ganja” were found in their luggage after customs officials had their bags scanned, according to local news source Cayman Marl Road.
According to the report, Hadid and her friend Leah McCarthy were detained on suspicion of bringing marijuana into the country and bringing equipment for smoking it.
The two women were taken to the Prisoner Detention Center where they underwent processing before being eventually released on bail.
On July 12, Hadid and McCarthy made their court appearance and entered guilty pleas.
According to the Border Control spokesperson who spoke to USA Today, they were both fined $1,000 Cayman Islands Dollars ($1,200) and avoided a recorded conviction.
A representative for the Cayman Islands Judicial Administration informed the outlet that Hadid and McCarthy have since paid their fines.
A spokesperson for Hadid told E! News on Tuesday that the model was “traveling with marijuana purchased legally in N.Y.C. with a Medical license.”
“It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017,” her rep added. “Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”
In the days after her court appearance, Hadid shared photos and videos of their girls’ trip, giving the impression that she had quickly moved past the incident.
Hadid posted two photos of herself in bikinis on Instagram on Friday, one of which featured a large dragon tattoo on her right leg. She followed that post up with another picture showing her in a green bathing suit underwater.
Following the news of her arrest, Hadid took to Instagram on Tuesday to share more photos and videos from her trip, captioning them, “All’s well that ends well.”
