Girlfriends and The Game Creator Mara Brock Akil Signs Script Deal With Fox Entertainment

Mara Brock Akil signed a network-direct script deal with FOX Entertainment. Brock Akil will develop and write a scripted series for FOX to air on the network, according to Deadline.

Mara Brock Akil was the the creator of the classic shows Girlfriends and The Game. She is coming off an overall deal at Warner Bros. TV, which yielded two series, Black Lightning on the CW (originally set up at Fox) and Love Is_ on OWN. She is also a writer and producer for the show Being Mary Jane that starred Gabrielle Union.

Fox, which has no full-fledged in-house studio, has been making select deals directly with talent. This past summer, Fox Entertainment signed an exclusive, broadcast-only overall deal with Criminal Minds and Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis.
