Emily Blunt Refused AI and Created Her Own Alien Language for Spielberg’s ‘Disclosure Day’

Emily Blunt didn’t use AI to craft the clicking sounds that her character makes in Steven Spielberg’s newest sci-fi thriller. Instead, she created the alien noises herself.

The meteorologist character that Blunt plays in “Disclosure Day” needed a set of distinct sounds, so Blunt began sending Spielberg voice memos of herself clicking, humming, and making Morse-code-like sounds.

“Steven and I discussed it, and he said, ‘We could do it with AI, or you could do it,’ and I was like, ‘I feel confident I can make some weird noises,'” Blunt told ET. “And I was sending him voice memos of me clicking, humming, mixed with Morse code sounds. I just tried everything.”

John Williams composed the music for the film, which blends thriller and romance elements and follows a group of people who discover evidence of aliens but are caught up in a cover-up.

“Disclosure Day” made $44 million on its opening weekend and currently has an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.
