Multiplatinum singer-songwriter GAYLE released her first album, Observing Chaos, on Thursday, closing out a sunny season of singles with a 13-song record she penned and co-produced.
Observing Chaos finds GAYLE at her most vulnerable and raw as she documents the Grammy-nominated artist’s often tumultuous transition from her teenage years to adulthood, along with the successes and challenges that came with it.
Before that, she dropped a string of summer singles, which included junebug! that received editorial picks from Spotify’s New Music Friday, Apple’s New Music Daily, and Amazon’s Breakthrough Pop. Billboard called it the ultimate song that captures the carefree chaos of the start of summer. Moreover, she dropped Loving You Is and Bite the Bullet.
“Observing Chaos is about my experiences from the ages of 17-21. There were so many unique experiences that I was so lucky to have. I put out ‘abcdefu,’ and my life got completely turned upside down in the best ways. And while I was dealing with extremely unique circumstances, I was also going through things EVERY teenage/young adult has gone through. When I came home from tour, I had so much unraveling and piecing together to do. When I looked at my life and picked through all the songs I wrote on and off of tour, I was writing from such an honest place. I realized that in all the best ways, my life was chaos. The album is me honoring and observing it while slowly making sense of it all. And let’s be honest… being a teenager and being in your early twenties is complete CHAOS,” GAYLE added.
Previously this week, she performed Loving You on The Today Show. She has toured with such artists as Taylor Swift, Pink, Cyndi Lauper, Tate McRae, AJR, and My Chemical Romance.
The album concludes years of searching for her emotional core. After the whirlwind that followed the success of her double-platinum hit abcdefu, she made time for self-improvement and personal growth, exploring her identity as an adult and the themes explored in this album. The songs explore the pros and cons of different decisions, love and heartbreak, trust, partying, and the chaos of living between 17 and 21.
Recently, GAYLE announced her fan club, the G Spot, and has been giving away her album to fans on a road trip across the country, with listening parties and exclusives in Nashville, Chicago, Atlanta, and New York.
At 22, GAYLE lives in Nashville and is taking the world by storm with her courageous music. Her song “abcdefu” reached multi-platinum status, topped charts worldwide, and earned her a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year. The EP “a study of the human experience volume one,” which was created with producers Noah Conrad, Ryan Linvill, and Pete Nappi, introduced her as a new voice in pop music. On “Volume Two,” songs such as “god has a sense of humor” and “indieedgycool” reveal vulnerability and truth.
She co-wrote and performed “Butterflies,” a remastered version of Crazy Town’s “Butterfly,” used in the Barbie movie and produced by Mark Ronson. Her writing credits include Kelly Clarkson and Roddy Ricch. She worked together with Lauren Spencer-Smith, Em Beihold, and blackbear. She appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” She made Billboard’s “21 Under 21” list, was mentioned in Variety’s “Power of Young Hollywood Impact Report” for 2022, and became a YouTube Artist On The Rise and an MTV Global Push Artist.
Her fan base is huge: she has 2.5 million followers on socials, 5 million listeners per month on streaming platforms, 2.9 billion career streams, and 9.7 billion YouTube views. In the last 30 days, she gained 10 million streams on streaming platforms and 27 million YouTube views.
