Burke County authorities are investigating a tragic shooting that left one man dead early Sunday morning. The suspect, 28-year-old Hannah Cobb, has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter following the incident, which occurred at a residence in Hephzibah, Georgia.
Early Morning Shooting in Hephzibah
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) received reports of a shooting around 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2025. Deputies responded to a home on the 800 block of Four Points Road, where they discovered 30-year-old Telvin Osborne in the master bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Osborne was immediately transported to a local hospital, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead.
Victim’s Girlfriend Arrested
Authorities quickly identified Hannah Cobb, Osborne’s girlfriend and the mother of their child, as the primary suspect in the case. She was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter.
According to Lead Investigator statements to FOX54, Cobb admitted that she and Osborne had been drinking heavily that night before getting into an argument. Cobb claimed that when they returned home, she was checking her firearm, something she said they did together nightly, when the gun accidentally discharged, striking Osborne in the chest.

However, law enforcement officials have not yet confirmed whether the shooting was truly accidental. The investigation remains open as authorities work to gather additional evidence and statements.
Child Was Not Present in the Home
Cobb and Osborne share a child, but according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, no children were inside the house at the time of the shooting. Authorities have not disclosed who currently has custody of the child following Cobb’s arrest.
Family Members Seek Justice
The shooting has garnered significant attention, particularly from Osborne’s family and loved ones.
One of Osborne’s relatives, Mark Stevenson, took to Twitter to express his frustration, alleging that Cobb’s father is a law enforcement officer, which he fears may impact the case’s transparency.
“My cousin’s girlfriend Hannah Cobb killed him Sunday morning and is claiming that she got drunk at the club and came home to clean her gun at 5 a.m. and it ‘accidentally’ went off. Her dad is a cop and currently she has not been charged. The Burke Co. Sheriff has already been warned that it’s about to get very real down there. My family is too deep in that area for this to be taken lightly. RIH Telvin, we gonna get justice one way or another.“
His statement reflects the growing concerns within the community regarding how the case is being handled.
Sheriff’s Office Remains Cautious
Authorities have emphasized that they are handling the case thoroughly and carefully, ensuring that all facts are properly investigated before making final determinations.
The BCSO Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is actively working to piece together the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal shooting. Officials have stated that out of respect for the victim’s family, certain details of the case are being withheld until proper notifications have been made.
What Happens Next?
With Cobb now in custody, the next steps in the legal process will determine whether her claim of an accidental discharge holds up under further investigation.
The community, friends, and family of Telvin Osborne are eager for more answers as they grieve his loss. Many have called for a fair and transparent investigation to ensure that justice is served.
This remains a developing story, and more updates will be provided as new details emerge.
