‘High Desert’ Interview: Weruche Opia, Rupert Friend, Keir O’Donnell, Christine Taylor, and Jay Roach

High Desert follows Peggy (Patricia Arquette), an on-again, off-again addict who decides to make a new start after the death of her beloved mother, with whom she shared a small desert town in California, and makes a life-changing decision to become a private investigator.

If you want a show that is both funny and intense, this is the series for you. With High Desert, Apple TV Plus appears to have found a cathartic balance of conflict and comedy.

Jay Roach’s mind unfolds as the characters embark on their adventures, with episodes that are long enough to satisfy the viewer while also keeping them coming back for more.

The chemistry between the High Desert cast members is palpable. Having actually filmed in the desert, it appears that the cast made some unforgettable memories while experiencing first-time experiences filming this show.

The series’ director, Jay Roach, expressed his excitement for working on a project that not only had an incredibly talented and hilarious cast- but he was also drawn to this series because of the nostalgia surrounding the show’s location. Jay credits his connection to the comedy to his upbringing in the desert.

When I spoke with the ‘High Desert’ cast, they were all excited about the production team behind the series, as well as the shenanigans that the ensemble would be able to partake in, led by the ringleader of comedy and the show herself, Patricia Arquette.

When asked about working with a legend such as Patricia, co-star Keir O’Donnell said, “…it was a cool challenge to find a sort of grounding reality to it.” Christine Taylor, who plays Patricia Arquette’s character’s sister, Peggy, also chimed in, saying, “…it’s this character where you’d be playing Patricia Arquette’s sister, and I was like, that’s it I’m in I’d do anything I love her I’m a huge fan.”

High Desert’s first three episodes will premiere on Apple TV Plus on May 17th, with new episodes arriving weekly until June 21st.
