Hulu today announced the premiere date and released first-look photos for its highly anticipated original series, “Interior Chinatown.” All ten episodes of the dark comedy mystery will debut on Tuesday, November 19th, exclusively on Hulu.
A Genre-Bending Exploration of Identity
Based on Charles Yu’s award-winning novel of the same name, “Interior Chinatown” takes viewers on a thought-provoking journey with Willis Wu (played by to-be-announced). Willis, an Asian-American actor perpetually relegated to background roles in a black-and-white police procedural called “Black & White,” yearns for a more substantial existence. His life unfolds between the monotony of his day job as a waiter and the unfulfilled promise of his on-screen persona. A chance encounter with a crime, however, catapults Willis into the heart of a complex conspiracy. As he unravels the web of secrets, he uncovers his family’s buried history and grapples with the unfamiliar yet tantalizing reality of being thrust into the spotlight.
A Talented Ensemble and Creative Vision
The series features a stellar cast, including Jimmy O. Yang, Ronny Chieng, Chloe Bennet, Lisa Gilroy, Sullivan Jones, Archie Kao, and Diana Lin.
Adding further depth to the production is the show’s creative team. Charles Yu, the author of the source material, serves as executive producer alongside a distinguished group: Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore for Rideback; Jeff Skoll, Miura Kite, and Elsie Choi for Participant; Garrett Basch for Dive; and Taika Waititi, who also directed the pilot episode. “Interior Chinatown” is a ten-episode drama produced by 20th Television.
A Show to Watch This Fall
With its unique blend of humor, mystery, and introspective themes, “Interior Chinatown” promises to be a captivating addition to Hulu’s fall slate. The series delves into the complexities of identity, the allure of escaping the mundane, and the unexpected consequences of stepping outside one’s comfort zone. Mark your calendars for November 19th and prepare to be enthralled by “Interior Chinatown” on Hulu.
