Iggy Azalea is showing a softer side these days.
The famous rapper and businesswoman, known for both her hit songs and her foray into cryptocurrency, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a heartfelt post about Punch, the baby monkey in Japan whose story has been making the rounds on the internet.
“I wanna adopt Punch that sweet sweet little monkey 😭😭,” Azalea wrote in reaction to the viral pictures and news about the baby monkey’s early life struggles.
Punch is a baby Japanese macaque monkey whose mom abandoned him at birth at the Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan. Luckily for the baby, the zoo officials immediately took him into their care, providing him with the care he needed to survive. NBC News reported that zoo officials also provided the baby monkey with a stuffed orangutan toy from Ikea as a substitute companion.
The stuffed toy has since become the baby monkey’s best friend, and the viral pictures show the baby monkey hugging it as he goes through life without his mom. Initially, the baby monkey had a hard time getting along with the other baby monkeys in the zoo, often playing by himself and looking nervous in the company of the other baby monkeys.
However, the baby monkey’s “active and fearless personality” eventually helped him make friends with the other baby monkeys at the zoo, the New York Times reported, citing the zoo officials. Lately, the baby monkey has been getting more confident and making friends with the other baby monkeys in the zoo.
The baby monkey’s story has since gone viral, captivating the hearts of people not just in the city where the zoo is located but also in the whole of Japan and even beyond, with people coming to the zoo to catch a glimpse of the baby monkey and his best friend, the stuffed orangutan toy from Ikea.
