Disney has officially dropped the highly anticipated first teaser trailer and poster for Freakier Friday, the sequel to the beloved 2003 body-swap comedy Freaky Friday. Starring the iconic duo Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, the film is set to hit theaters exclusively on August 8, 2025, more than two decades after the original’s release.
A Long-Awaited Reunion: Curtis & Lohan Are Back
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman, the mother-daughter duo who previously swapped bodies in a supernatural mishap. The sequel picks up years after their first identity crisis, with Anna now navigating motherhood and the challenges of blending families. According to the official synopsis, Anna has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter, setting the stage for another unexpected and, of course, chaotic transformation.
The film, directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night, High Note), promises to capture the same heartwarming humor and intergenerational conflicts that made Freaky Friday a cultural staple. The screenplay is based on Mary Rodgers’ novel and brings fresh, modern twists to the classic story.

Filming and Behind-the-Scenes Drama
Production for Freakier Friday kicked off in June 2024 in Los Angeles and wrapped by August. However, not everything went smoothly behind the scenes.
Paparazzi images from the set leaked online during filming, spoiling potential plot points before Disney officially unveiled any footage. Jamie Lee Curtis was not amused, publicly calling out the intrusion.
“We have tried so hard to keep our story a secret, to give audiences the joy of discovery in the theater. It’s frustrating when that’s taken away by people who don’t respect the creative process.” – Jamie Lee Curtis via Entertainment Weekly
Despite the leaks, Disney managed to keep many of the film’s biggest surprises under wraps, and the teaser trailer has already reignited fan excitement.
What to Expect: Bigger, Wilder, and “Freakier” Than Ever
If the teaser is anything to go by, Freakier Friday will amp up the chaos and comedy even more than the first film. The mother-daughter swap in Freaky Friday was life-altering for Tess and Anna, but this time, the stakes are even higher with multiple generations involved.
While plot details remain mostly secret, sources suggest that Anna’s daughter and stepdaughter could also get caught in the supernatural mix, leading to a multi-generational swap scenario. Fans are already speculating about the possibilities. Will Anna experience life as her own child? Will Tess find herself in yet another young body? Or will an entirely new character shake things up?

A Legacy Sequel Worth the Wait
The original Freaky Friday (2003) was a massive box office hit, grossing $160 million worldwide on a modest budget. Over the years, it has remained a nostalgic favorite, known for its witty humor, heartfelt mother-daughter moments, and unforgettable performances from Curtis and Lohan.
This sequel arrives when nostalgic reboots and legacy sequels (Mean Girls, Legally Blonde 3, Hocus Pocus 2) dominate Hollywood, proving that audiences are more than ready for a return to the classics with a modern twist.
Lindsay Lohan, whose career has seen a major resurgence in recent years, called reuniting with Jamie Lee Curtis a “dream come true”.

Mark Your Calendars: August 8, 2025
With a killer cast, nostalgic throwbacks, and an even crazier body-swap twist, Freakier Friday is shaping up to be one of summer 2025’s biggest blockbusters.
Theaters will be packed with fans who grew up watching Lohan and Curtis, along with a whole new generation discovering the franchise for the first time. One thing’s for sure, this Friday is about to get a whole lot freakier.
