The first day of actor Jonathan Majors’ domestic violence trial took a startling turn as prosecutors made wild accusations against him, The New York Post reports. The Manhattan Assistant District Attorney, Michael Perez, claimed that Majors instructed his white girlfriend to emulate iconic couples, suggesting she be the Coretta to his Martin Luther King Jr. and the Michelle to his Barack Obama.
During the opening statement, Perez portrayed Grace Jabarri, Majors’ accuser, as a victim of toxic treatment throughout their two-year relationship. Allegedly, Majors exhibited emotional manipulation, dictating aspects of Jabarri’s life, from her social interactions to her sacrifices.
Perez asserted that Majors wanted Jabarri to model their relationship after the dynamics of historical power couples, imposing unrealistic expectations on her. “He told Grace Jabarri that she needs to live up to the standards of Coretta Scott King and Michelle Obama to make sacrifices for him because, he told her, ‘I am a great man,'” Perez claimed. “He told her that she needed to comport herself in the way he needed her to be.”
According to Perez, these behavioral patterns created a hostile environment, leading up to the night when the alleged abuse occurred. Majors’ defense vehemently denied the accusations, maintaining his innocence.
The court will examine the evidence and witness testimonies as the trial progresses to determine the veracity of these claims. With shocking allegations emerging on the first day of the trial, the proceedings are expected to garner a lot of attention in the coming days.
