Joy Taylor recently dedicated one of her show topics, Two Personal, to the issue of money in relationships: Is it enough for a housewife not to work if her husband pays all the expenses and gives her a $5,000 monthly allowance?
According to Taylor, most people usually fail to provide a sufficient amount of money. After covering all household expenses, one should also budget for hair, nails, sports activities, and fashion, which can add up to $2,500 a month. Moreover, even if a woman does not earn, she should be financially secure in case something goes wrong.
Her friend Hayley raised the issue, and Joy and Hayley had a heated discussion.
“If I pay all of your bills, like all of the bills, I will then give you $5,000 and you won’t work. That would not work for me. I have not even done all of the things that I do to preserve this body and this face and this hair. $1,700. Yeah, that’s wild. Like, I purposely will stagger some of my appointments because I’m like, ooh, do I really need to get my nails done every two weeks? Maybe like three and a half. Like, because that’s a lot. I’m not even as … baddie as I could be. Let’s just say me. $2,500 easy is a monthly, like, maintenance thing. Upkeep everything. Upkeep.”
Then the conversation moved to savings.
“Now I want to save money for myself because I’m not working. So I need to put money away every month so that if you decide to wake up and freak the (expletive) out and be a different person, I need to have money so I can start my life over.”
Joy admitted that sometimes the sum could be enough for a woman, depending on her lifestyle.
“$5,000 is completely doable if you live a certain type of way, if you are a certain type of woman, if you’re very, very, very low maintenance, you all can do it. You can absolutely do it. It is a reasonable number, 100%. But don’t come over here without. Yeah, because there are things I could take off the table. I could take hair off the table. I can dye my own hair. I can do my own hair. I can make it curly. I can blow it out.”
Neither of them seems interested in taking part in such an agreement.
“I could do that if I wanted to. I’m not doing that in hair. But you can. I’m not in this conversation. She just said I’m out. I am not a candidate for this conversation.”
