Netflix’s hit show On My Block is returning with its season finale on Monday, October 4th. The writers left us on our toes when season three’s closing episode foreshadowed some significant changes within the tight-knit group. Fans anxiously waited for season four to arrive, and with its release, we are all forming our own assumptions of what will take place as we follow the squad for one last spin on the block.
The new season fast forwards two years later, following Monsé (Sierra Capri), Cesar (Diego Tinoco), Ruby (Jason Genao), Jamal (Brett Gray), and Jasmine (Jessica Marie Garcia) on their newest adventure. The crew has gone their separate ways, but when things spark up again, they realize they have to come together again to tackle what’s ahead of them all. Whereisthebuzz’s Danteé Ramos sat with Julio Macias (Oscar ‘Spooky’ Diaz) from Netflix’s On My Block on the possibilities of where season four will go, his character ‘Spooky’s’ future, and more.
Fast forward two years later, Spooky is a new man. Foreshadowing, what happened between that time?
“We grew up; everybody grew up. We didn’t know if there would be a fourth season, so I like the third season-ending how a lot of friendships via our middle school, high school, college just tapper off. These are your homies for like, but life can be two or three years at a time. So we see the decisions unfold, so we see Oscars’s changes”.
What do you hope fans will take away from season four?
“That life is complicated but also beautiful. We have to embrace the people around us and the decisions and understand those decisions also come with consequences. Once you pay the consequences, keep moving forward, and I think that’s what season four is all about, taking ownership over your life.
Now that ‘Spooky’ is a new man and has a fresh start, do you think he’d return the ‘Santos’ at some point?
I think there’s the expression “once you’re in, you’re in for life,” but that can mean many things. You can be affiliated but phased out of doing the groundwork or being in the front lines because these people are still your family in a very strange way. I don’t know if he’s still going to be in a gang, but I think he has one foot in and one foot out.
There’s much to unravel in season four, and Macias proves that as we wait to see what the future of his character ‘Spooky’ holds.
Saying his farewell to the block Macias tweeted,” That’s All Folks YOU, THE FANS, made this show just as much as the cast and everyone behind the scenes. Thank you for the love, the laughs, and all the memories. Our lives have been forever changed, and we’re eternally grateful”.
Season four of On My Block is out now on Netflix.
