No longer satisfied with simply being the beauty magnate, TV royalty, and rising actress, Kylie Jenner has now decided to enter the musical fold. The 28-year-old billionaire shocked everyone by releasing her much-awaited musical debut on Terror Jr’s brand new track “Fourth Strike“, a resurgence of both her dark alter ego “King Kylie” and a throwback reference to the very early years of Kylie Cosmetics.
Kylie Jenner Breaks Down Her Decision to Take the Leap into Music
It was no late publicity stunt for Jenner. It was a personal aspiration she could not let go of as she approached 30.
“I’m going to be 30 soon, and I don’t want to look back on life and have any regrets,” Kylie explained in a new interview. “This is something I’ve always wanted to try. I don’t think I’m Adele or anything…I always wanted to see if I could do it.”
It’s a statement that’s completely in line with King Kylie, bold, unapologetic, and shot through with self-awareness. Some may raise an eyebrow at Jenner’s decision to branch into music, but she was adamant that this is about creative curiosity, not chart-topping.
The King Kylie Era Is Reborn
Terror Jr’s new single, “Fourth Strike,” serves as a spiritual follow-up to the group’s breakout 2014 single, “Three Strikes,” which was famously featured in an early Kylie Cosmetics lip gloss ad. Rumors at the time circulated that Jenner was allegedly the anonymous group, which she immediately shot down. Now, well over a decade later, the rumor comes full circle with Jenner herself grabbing the mic. It drops at the same time that Kylie Cosmetics brings back its vintage offerings under the King Kylie umbrella. In keeping with the theme, Jenner leads off a cinematic new ad shot in the vein of a mini-movie: just released from jail, she zooms off in a black convertible with no less than Kris Jenner riding shotgun. The imagery goes all-in on her old-school wild look, and it’s clear that King Kylie has been given new life.
Kylie Jenner Teases More Music on the Horizon
Asked if this was a one-time experiment or the beginning of a larger music chapter, Jenner was quick:
“I hope so. I would love to try. That was so much fun that I don’t want it to end. Why not? Let’s try and make an album. If we’re not feeling it we’ll listen to it ourselves.”
The concept of Kylie Jenner releasing an album, half to self-promote, half to appease her public, seems laughable, campy, and very in brand. Whether it ever sees the light of day or not, that it was even contemplated has caused quite a stir on the net so far.
Music Is Not Her Only Business
Jenner’s musical debut comes alongside the diversification of her entertainment portfolio beyond reality TV. She’s also set to guest in Charli XCX’s forthcoming A24 film The Moment, which marks a growing acting ambition on her part.
