Lana Del Rey Denies Being Sued by Kim Kardashian Over SKIMS Campaign: ‘This Isn’t Happening’

Another day, another absurd celebrity lawsuit rumor that sends the internet spiraling. This time, the supposed legal battle involved none other than alternative queen Lana Del Rey and reality TV mogul Kim Kardashian. The claim? That Kim was taking Lana to court over their SKIMS campaign.

TMZ caught up with Del Rey, who wasted no time shutting it all the way down. In true Lana fashion, her response was both poetic and effortlessly dismissive.

“This isn’t happening. Not as far as either one of us know,” she said. “I don’t know where this started. If it does have to happen because of guidelines, then we will handle it. But never an end to a friendship.”

Not only did she call the entire thing false, but she also made it clear that even if something needed to be handled, it wouldn’t be messy.

So, what exactly is going on here? Where did this fever dream of a lawsuit even come from?

The SKIMS Campaign That Had the Girls in a Chokehold

Back in January 2024, Kim Kardashian’s shapewear empire, SKIMS, rolled out a dreamy, vintage-inspired Valentine’s Day campaign featuring none other than Lana Del Rey. The campaign, shot by the always-iconic Nadia Lee Cohen, was giving full-on Old Hollywood fantasy. Lana lounged inside a giant heart-shaped chocolate box, draped herself in lace, and served sultry, melancholic glamour like only she can.

The internet lost its collective mind. Fans gushed over the perfect pairing. Lana’s aesthetic and SKIMS’ sleek, sexy branding were a match made in marketing heaven.

And the numbers backed it up. Within four days of the campaign’s launch, it reportedly generated a staggering $13.7 million in Media Impact Value. One single Instagram post from Lana alone accounted for $4 million of that.

So if you’re Kim Kardashian, you’re probably thinking, “Mission accomplished.” Right?

The “Scandal” That Wasn’t

Despite the campaign’s success, the National Advertising Division (NAD) decided to scrutinize it. Why? Because Lana posted about SKIMS on Instagram without explicitly stating that it was a paid partnership.

Yes, this is the controversy. This is what had some people convinced Kim was about to sue Lana.

The NAD, a self-regulatory advertising watchdog in the US, flagged three of Lana’s posts for failing to include clear disclosures like #ad or #sponsored. According to them, fans might not have realized she was being paid to promote the brand. SKIMS immediately responded, telling Lana to either modify or remove the posts to comply with advertising guidelines.

A little compliance headache? Sure. A lawsuit? Please. Kim K has enough on her plate without dragging Lana into a courtroom over Instagram captions.

Lana and Kim Are Still Besties, Sorry Haters

If anyone thought this was going to turn into a full-on celebrity feud, they’re going to be sorely disappointed. Lana and Kim’s relationship is intact, lawsuit or not.

Lana has never been shy about her admiration for the Kardashians. In fact, she and her sister Chuck Grant have been longtime fans of the family. “I love Kim, and I love her family,” Lana once said. “Me and my sister are huge fans of them and have been watching them forever.”

The idea that Kim would turn around and sue her over a couple of Instagram posts is, frankly, ridiculous. Lana’s own words confirm that this was nothing more than a miscommunication turned into a wild internet conspiracy.

The Real Lesson Here? The Internet Is Unhinged

So, what have we learned? That a minor advertising regulation issue can somehow morph into a full-blown “celebrity lawsuit” in the minds of gossip-hungry internet users. That people will believe anything as long as it sounds scandalous enough.

And most importantly, that Lana Del Rey and Kim Kardashian will be just fine.
