Latto brought up Cardi B in an interview regarding a particular line on her album. She said the bit about a woman offering to buy her a designer bag was based on something Cardi B did. Still, it wasn’t meant as any kind of beef.
During a chat with The Breakfast Club, Latto clarified that she was referring to Cardi B in the song and that it wasn’t intended as an insult.
Their issues date back to a pretty heated conversation Cardi B had with Ice Spice’s team, captured on a leaked recording. During that call, Cardi B jabbed at Latto using harsh words.
“You must think I’m p—y a– Latto,” Cardi B was heard saying on the recording.
Latto said the recording blindsided her, as she and Cardi B had been on good terms when it surfaced. She had recently rushed to the studio while in the early stages of her pregnancy to record a verse for Cardi B’s project, only to see the leaked call circulate days later.
“I was at an early stage of my pregnancy, and I rushed to the studio to do this verse for her first week’s sales,” Latto said. “Literally like two days later, I’m seeing all over the internet I’m being called p—y.”
On top of that, the two often texted and considered each other friends.
Cardi B eventually released a public apology and hit up Latto a few weeks later, but it took around two months for them to chat directly.
By then, though, Latto was already healing and moving past it. They’ve had no communication since that point.
