LeBron James, one of the greatest basketball players of all time, is still proving he’s just as great off the court, as he takes his I Promise foundation to new heights.

The LeBron James Family Foundation held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the I PROMISE Housing development, according to News 5 Cleveland.

The East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation is collaborating on the apartment complex. The building has 50 apartments, which include two, three, and four-bedroom units. All units have fiber-optic Wi-Fi and amenities such as community and fitness rooms. According to Fox 8, the I PROMISE Housing development required more than $16 million in commitments from numerous partners.

According to Ideastream Public Media, there will also be social services available on the first floor of the building, such as financial counseling and mental health services.

The apartment complex, according to WKYC, is located at 445 S. Maple St, which is only a half-mile away from the I Promise School that James opened in 2018.

“Young people who have a quality place to live are better students and become better citizens in our community,” said Dan DeVille, Vice Chair of the East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation, in a written statement.

Gloria James, LeBron’s mother, was present for the ribbon cutting and also took part in the tour of the units.

“LeBron always says leave a place better than when you found it. This is a way of not only doing that but inspiring all of our families and everyone to do the same,” James said. “Today, we say welcome home.”

The LeBron James Family Foundation and the East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation intend to assist tenants in the form of job and family services, medical and mental healthcare, educational and career advancement training, and financial literacy.

The I PROMISE Housing development is still accepting applications from families who want to live there. Already, seventeen families have been approved. Families interested in applying can find out more information here.
