A Loyalton High School teacher, Emma Shaffer, has been arrested following a report of a potential sexual assault on campus.
On November 29, 2023, the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office received the report, which prompted an investigation into allegations of a sexual relationship between Shaffer and a juvenile student.
After a thorough investigation and interviews, an arrest warrant was prepared for Emma Shaffer, and on November 30, 2023, a Sierra County Superior Court Judge issued the warrant.
Shaffer was arrested on December 1, 2023, and booked into the Nevada County Jail.
Her charges include unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, filing a false police report, perjury, and contributing to a minor’s delinquency.
The Sierra County District Attorney anticipates additional charges as the investigation unfolds.
The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office is actively involved in the investigation, collaborating closely with the Sierra-Plumas Joint Unified School District and Loyalton High School Administration Staff.
Authorities are urging parents, guardians, and both former and current students to come forward with any information relevant to the case or potential additional victims, emphasizing the importance of breaking the silence.
