On the newest episode of Dinners With Demar, ESPN anchor Malika Andrews called out the ongoing claims that say she discriminately covers stories against Black men. After accusations went around social media, it’s something personal with which Andrews has had frustration and wanted to use a platform to set straight.
“That’s been the hardest thing for me sometimes—stomaching the falsehoods, particularly this [idea of], ‘you hate Black men,’” Andrews said during her candid conversation with Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan. “That couldn’t be further from the truth.”
Andrews, who has often been in the spotlight for her commentary and interviews on the NBA, also spoke about how some critics have used her family background as a way to fuel these accusations. “Using my family or the way that my family looks as some sort of evidence of that… it’s just untrue, and it’s just unkind,” she said, rejecting the claims.
The NBA Today host emphasized her dedication to her work, stating that her aim is to foster fairness and professionalism in her reporting. “We all have jobs to do, and I try to do my best to show up every day so that [NBA athletes] know what I’m about,” she explained.
