Mandy Moore Slams Amazon for Delivering Package to In-Laws’ Burned-Down Home

Actress and singer Mandy Moore has publicly criticized Amazon after a package was inexplicably delivered to her in-laws’ home—despite the fact that the residence was completely destroyed in the recent Los Angeles wildfires.

Moore, best known for her roles in This Is Us and A Walk to Remember, took to Instagram to express her outrage over the situation, posting a photo of the package lying amidst the ruins of the burned-down home.

“DO BETTER, AMAZON,” she wrote. “CAN WE NOT HAVE BETTER DISCRETION THAN TO LEAVE A PACKAGE AT A RESIDENCE THAT NO LONGER EXISTS? THIS IS MY MOTHER AND FATHER-IN-LAW’S HOME. SMH.”

The Devastation of the L.A. Wildfires

The Los Angeles wildfires, which ravaged multiple communities in Southern California, have caused widespread destruction. Among those affected were Moore’s in-laws, who lost their home completely. Moore and her husband, Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith, also suffered significant losses.

While the main structure of their Altadena home remained standing, they lost their garage, back house, and Goldsmith’s music studio. The studio contained all of his instruments and equipment, making the loss particularly heartbreaking. Moore described the experience as “a harrowing 24 hours” and expressed gratitude that her family members were safe.

Amazon’s Response to the Controversy

Following Moore’s public complaint, Amazon issued a response addressing the incident.

“We’ve reached out to Ms. Moore via Instagram to apologize for this and to ask for more information from her in-laws so we’re better able to investigate what happened here,” said Amazon spokesperson Steve Kelly.

Kelly further explained that Amazon had instructed delivery personnel to exercise discretion when delivering to wildfire-affected areas. However, in this case, those instructions were clearly not followed.

“For weeks, we’ve advised those who are delivering on our behalf in Southern California to use discretion in areas that were impacted by wildfires—especially if it involves delivering to a damaged home—that clearly didn’t happen here.”

A Broader Issue: The Challenges of Deliveries in Disaster Zones

The incident has sparked a larger discussion about the responsibilities of delivery services in disaster-stricken areas. While automated systems and GPS tracking often dictate delivery locations, some argue that companies like Amazon need to implement better safeguards to prevent unnecessary deliveries to homes that no longer exist.

This situation also raises concerns about the emotional impact such incidents can have on survivors. For those who have lost everything, a misdirected package is more than just an inconvenience—it is a painful reminder of what has been destroyed.

Public Reaction and Calls for Change

Moore’s Instagram post quickly gained traction, with fans and social media users rallying behind her frustration. Many criticized Amazon for its apparent lack of sensitivity and called for changes to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“Amazon should have a system in place to verify if a home is still standing before delivering a package,” one user commented. “This is just adding insult to injury for those who have lost so much.”

Another added, “This just proves how impersonal and automated the system is. There should be a human element to prevent things like this from happening.”

Moving Forward: Lessons Learned from the Incident

As climate change continues to fuel increasingly destructive wildfires, incidents like this highlight the need for corporations to adapt their policies to better serve customers in disaster-affected areas.

While Amazon has acknowledged the mistake, it remains to be seen whether the company will take steps to improve its delivery discretion in such situations. Moore’s public call-out serves as a stark reminder that even in an era of automation and convenience, common sense and human judgment are still essential.

For now, Moore and her family continue to focus on rebuilding and recovering from the devastation left in the wake of the L.A. wildfires.
