May Ling Says The BBL Isn’t What Kills You: “The Biggest Cause Of Death With BBLs Is Bad Doctors”

May Ling is not the type to engage in false modesty. While most augmented women of the internet boast of gains from working out and natural genes, she tells exactly the sum, the name of the doctor she consults, and the reasons why she has decided to undergo her third Brazilian butt lift.

That sum is $70,000. Those reasons include aesthetic and financial considerations, and one she describes in the vocabulary of a video game player: she is trying to customize her character.

We asked her questions about mortality statistics of the BBL procedure, risks associated with it, the perfect ratio she pursues, and what would happen if someone surpasses her six months from now.

We began our conversation with the toughest question, since there is no soft way of bringing it up. BBL procedure kills more of its patients than any other elective cosmetic procedure, and the fat embolism is the main cause behind the deaths. We were interested in the risk she is facing with her third operation, and in whether any doctor has refused her.

She answered without hesitation and without resorting to safe public-relations answers. She reached for anatomy.

“In my opinion, the biggest cause of death with BBLs is bad doctors. Fat embolism and infection are the two biggest causes of death. The easiest way to prevent infection is to stay in a high-quality facility and have a full recovery team. The other major cause is fat embolism. Fat embolisms happen when the fat enters a major blood vessel and moves to the heart or lungs. These blood vessels exist in the glute muscles but not in the layer of fat above the glute. My doctor only injects into this fat layer and is considered one of the best bbl doctors in the world. Because of this, my doctor has never had a patient who had a fat embolism. Because BBLs are trendy and expensive, many girls go to third-world countries to try to get affordable surgery and go to fake doctors who are unqualified and have no real credentials and training. I’ve never had a doctor turn me down; I’m going to the same doctor for all 3 BBLs. The doctor I go to commonly does 3, 4, 5 bbls on girls. It’s actually very common. Most girls lie online about the surgery they have gotten done, but even the ones who are honest about getting lipo or a bbl many have had 3+ BBLs or multiple rounds of lipo but don’t talk about it because they don’t want to be judged, but I love my surgery and take pride in it.”

Her response was shocking and entirely altered our perception of the risks. According to May Ling, the problem doesn’t lie with the procedure, but with the skill of the doctor performing it and the placement of the fat. Perhaps the most quietly shocking part of the interview is her remark about industry silence. The number of people undergoing three, four, and five BBLs is far higher than the number admitting to it. “If you get botched, you have to get corrective surgery; that’s pretty much all there is to it, but I put my safety and look before my budget and only go to the top-of-the-line doctors, so I have full faith in their skills. And if I want to reverse this I just have to go on a diet. It’s just fat at the end of the day. On my butt instead of my stomach. If I’m 300 lbs of pure booty and I go on a diet I’ll just lose my butt and go back to a kind of normal super thick girl. But no, I can’t go back to being a totally average flat girl with no butt and a big stomach; that’s impossible.”

Note that she doesn’t say the procedure is reversible. She divides the results into those she can undo by losing weight and those she can’t undo at all, and she feels comfortable on both ends of the spectrum. The May Ling who was before the first operation is gone. She admits it and doesn’t regret it. “Kind of” asterisks in her statement do a lot of work.

We asked May Ling straight up: would she undergo the third BBL if she surpasses Gracie Bon and someone surpasses her six months from now? “I’m pretty sure Gracie Bon’s at around 70 inches, give or take, but there are girls with bigger butts than her right now; they just don’t have the waist-to-hip-to-butt ratios she has. It’s about that ratio. I think she has the most beautiful body I’ve ever seen. But if I surpass her and someone else surpasses me, I think it could be fun to keep competing. It’s less about the number and more about the look. Gracie Bon has the most beautiful body in the world, and naturally I’d love to look similar. I’ve never seen ‘too extreme,’ but if I passed her and reached a point where I was too extreme for my own taste, or if someone else surpassed me and looked too extreme for my taste, I wouldn’t chase it pointlessly. If they passed me and I thought they looked better, I’d probably be motivated to look even better. It’s not just about beating someone; it’s about drawing inspiration from their beauty.”

This clarification matters, since the number measured with a tape isn’t the indicator she values. Many women have larger measurements than Gracie Bon. However, none of them has the same proportions; you can’t get them by increasing the vo.

The “I’ve never seen too extreme” statement will be repeated throughout the internet, and the statement following it should be paid equal attention since it is the only point where she stops: she stops when the result stops looking good for her. “Absolutely haha. There are 1000% financial motivators in looking like this. I do LOVE the look, but it’s hard work, and I treat it like a full-time job. I prob wouldn’t have gone this extreme this quickly if I had rich parents who could pay for my whole life. I don’t tho. I lived in a VW Beetle with my mom and two sisters and quickly learned the cruelties of living with no money. I’ll never live like that again. So brick by brick I’m going to build a stable, comfortable, and financially free life for myself using one of my favorite hobbies, customizing my character!”
