Mia Khalifa Claps Back at Elon Musk Over Lupita Nyong’o’s Role in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Odyssey’

Mia Khalifa has responded sharply to Elon Musk’s latest attack against Christopher Nolan’s casting decision in Odyssey. The controversy centers on the filmmaker’s decision to cast Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy in the movie set for 2026.

When commenting in Variety regarding Musk’s statements, Khalifa made a statement on X: “Sometimes you’re so wrong you land back at right cause… yeah… he cast her cause he wants awards … cause she’s good…”

The reply was addressed directly to Musk, who called Nolan out for “race-swapping” in that particular case. The casting of the Black actress as Helen of Troy, a fair-haired woman according to Homer, has been interpreted by Musk as Nolan’s attempt to achieve diversity ahead of award season. The tech magnate has also ridiculed the reported casting of Elliot Page.

However, if Musk’s argument is that Nolan wants the Oscars as the reason for his casting decision, then he implicitly acknowledges Nyong’o’s awards potential and hence validates the casting. Indeed, Lupita Nyong’o won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in her role in “12 Years a Slave.”

Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey is expected in July 2026. Six countries will be involved in the filming, with heavy use of practical effects. Matt Damon will also be featured in Odyssey. In addition to her role as Helen of Troy, Lupita Nyong’o will play another part: Clytemnestra, Helen’s sister.
