Gridley Police arrested a teacher Monday after an investigation into the distribution of explicit photographs revealed that the teacher was having sexual relations with a minor, according to the police department.

According to authorities, on October 10th, the Gridley Police Department received information from a concerned parent about a rumor of explicit photographs of a Gridley Unified School District (GUSD) teacher circulating among students.

Gridley Police Department immediately launched an investigation to determine the veracity of the allegation.

Throughout the investigation, Butte County District Attorney’s Office investigators were able to produce evidence that more than just explicit photographs of a GUSD teacher were being circulated by community students.

According to authorities, the investigation revealed that Michelle Solis, a middle school teacher at Sycamore Middle School in Gridley, was involved in a sexual relationship with a former student.

Additional evidence was obtained from other explicit photographs in the juvenile victim’s possession.

Solis has been a teacher for the Gridley Unified School District for 20 years, according to the Gridley Police Department.

Following a review of the facts of the case by the Butte County District Attorney’s Office and a judge from the Butte County Superior Court, an arrest warrant was issued for Solis.

According to the Gridley Police Department, Solis was arrested at her home at 10:32 a.m. Monday and booked into the Butte County Jail on the felony charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 16.

Authorities say Solis could face additional charges if new details and evidence emerge.

Parents or guardians of any current or former students who may have information about this investigation, or who may know of any other potential victims, are urged to contact Gridley Police at (530) 846-5670. The investigation is still ongoing.
