Disney+ is remaking 20 episodes of Hannah Montana with a new Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special featuring Miley Cyrus.
The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special is set to premiere on March 24th exclusively on Disney+. Hannah Montana was a Disney Channel show that launched in 2006 and became a huge pop culture phenomenon for a whole generation.
The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special is being filmed in front of a live studio audience and includes a deep dive interview between Cyrus and podcast host Alex Cooper.
The special is said to be a behind-the-scenes look at how the fake pop star was created and how she lived her life as both a teen and a pop icon.
The special also includes a walk-through by Cyrus of some of her favorite moments from Hannah Montana. Viewers also get to see some never-before-seen footage from Hannah Montana.
Some of the show’s most famous sets, such as the Stewart family living room and Hannah Montana’s famous closet, are being recreated for the special.
There are also hints that some of the show’s famous musical moments are returning.
“Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am,” said Cyrus. “What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”
The special was hailed by Ayo Davis, the president of Disney Branded Television, as a tribute to the show’s loyal fanbase.
“‘Hannah Montana’ opened the door for so many fans to dream big, sing loud, and embrace every side of themselves, which is why its legacy continues to shine across generations,” Davis said. “Partnering with Miley on this special is a dream, and we want it to be a love letter to the fans, who remain as passionate today as they were when the series debuted almost 20 years ago.”
The popular Disney Channel show was a global phenomenon during its four-season run. The Hannah Montana franchise has earned the show’s fans a total of 14 platinum and 18 gold albums worldwide.
The show was also adapted into two films: Hannah Montana: The Movie and Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert. The original show launched Miley Cyrus to global fame.
The Hannah Montana franchise has streamed over half a billion hours worldwide on Disney+ so far, proving its enduring popularity.
HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions will make the Hannah Montana anniversary special. Ashley Edens will run the show. Cyrus, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Cooper, and Matt Kaplan will executive produce the show.
Before the premiere, subscribers can also catch up on the series in the Hannah Montana collection on Disney+.
Beginning February 19th, a nonstop stream will include all four seasons and the two movies, allowing fans to relive the franchise that defined a generation.
