Morgan Wallen Pleads Guilty to Reduced Charges in Nashville Bar Chair-Throwing Incident

Country music star Morgan Wallen pleaded guilty today to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment in connection with an incident earlier this year outside Eric Church’s Nashville bar, Chiefs. The April event, which initially led to three felony charges of reckless endangerment and a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct, saw Wallen accused of throwing a chair during an altercation.

As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped the three felony charges, reducing Wallen’s legal troubles to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment without a weapon.

Appearing in Davidson County Circuit Court before Judge Cynthia Chappell, the “Last Night” singer accepted the terms of the agreement, which include spending seven days at a DUI education center and serving two years of supervised probation—one year for each misdemeanor charge. Wallen was also fined $350 and ordered to pay court fees.

According to The Tennessean, Wallen could have the charges expunged from his record if he completes probation and the sentencing requirements without issue.

Lawyer’s Statement

After the hearing, Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson, issued a statement emphasizing the conditional nature of the plea:

“Earlier today (12/12/24), Morgan Wallen appeared in Davidson County Circuit Court…where he entered a conditional plea pursuant to Tennessee’s Diversion Statute that does not result in a conviction. The plea agreement…requires Mr. Wallen to spend 7 days at a DUI Education Center, be on probation for 2 years, pay a $350 fine and court fees. Upon the successful completion of his probation, the charges will be eligible for dismissal and expungement. Mr. Wallen has cooperated fully with authorities throughout these last eight months, directly communicating and apologizing to all involved. Mr. Wallen remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation.”

A Year of Highs and Lows

The legal resolution comes at the end of a blockbuster year for the 31-year-old artist. Wallen won the CMA Entertainer of the Year award, landed a record-setting five #1 singles on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, and broke concert-attendance records in both the U.S. and U.K. His hit song “I Had Some Help” was named Billboard’s “Song of the Summer” for the second year running.

Despite his legal troubles, Wallen’s career momentum shows no signs of slowing. However, as of now, the singer has not issued a public statement about his guilty plea.
