Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim Release Trailer For Elizabeth Holmes Documentary “You Can See Everything”

A24 has dropped the trailer for You Can See Everything, a documentary by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim that chronicles the time leading up to Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes’ incarceration.

The official synopsis says that, just 34 days before her incarceration, the notorious Silicon Valley figure asks a skeptical film crew to capture every aspect of her life. What begins as an attempt to capture an intimate profile of a bizarre criminal turns, in the filmmakers’ words, into a hallucinatory trip into the void that lasts three years.

In addition to capturing Holmes spending time with her boyfriend Billy Evans and their two children, the documentary also features her at a rental house in San Diego a few days before Holmes’ 2023 entry into federal prison. Parts where Fielder interacts with Holmes in a different room, including when she is incarcerated in Texas, are reenacted with the help of an A-list actress.

The documentary is 174 minutes long. It premiered as a surprise screening at the 53rd Telluride Film Festival on September 6, and A24 will premiere it in theaters on October 16. Ticket pre-sales are now available for select cinemas at youcanseeeverything.movie and will open nationwide on October 1.

In the trailer, Holmes reassures Fielder about the authenticity of her intentions. “I don’t have anything to deceive you on,” Holmes tells Fielder as they stare into each other’s eyes.

This is Fielder’s first feature film direction. He is the comedian behind the hit TV series Nathan for You, The Rehearsal, and The Curse. Meanwhile, Lance Oppenheim is known for directing Some Heaven and Primetime – the recent film about Chris Hansen starring Robert Pattinson.

So far, the early reactions to the film have been impressive. As Owen Gleiberman of Variety reports after seeing it at the Telluride Film Festival, the film is a unique psychodrama that blends reality-TV elements with a hangout movie. By the end of almost three hours, the audience broke into thunderous applause, Iowa Public Radio reported. IndieWire reported that even though Holmes is the main character, Evans becomes increasingly prominent as the film unfolds.

A one-minute teaser clip featuring a rather unnerving close-up of Holmes went viral on social media before the full trailer was released.

Holmes founded Theranos, the startup that boasted of its ability to run health tests on a single finger prick of blood. Holmes was found guilty on four counts of wire fraud in January 2022 and got a federal sentence of 11 years and three months in November 2022. In 2024, a federal appeals court upheld her conviction.

On May 30, 2023, Holmes started serving her sentence in a women’s prison camp in Texas. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ records, her projected release date is December 30, 2031.
