The NFL and Roc Nation announced that the artists will perform at the NFL Kickoff Experience in Chicago on September 5. People are sharing their thoughts on the Inspire Change social justice platform, which will use the proceeds of apparel and music sales to support “organizations committed to the key priorities of Inspire Change,” according to a press release.

Meek Mill will headline a free concert Sept. 5 at the NFL Kickoff Experience in Grant Park here in Chicago as part of the NFL and Roc Nation partnership.

Rapsody and Meghan Trainor are also scheduled to perform at the event.

Inspire Change and Songs of the Season are the first two initiatives from the new NFL-Roc Nation social justice partnership.

Is it capitalism, another stab in the back or something else?

Regardless, emotions are running high from our community.

This is what happens when “chess not checkers” is being played by capitalists in movement spaces.

Meek Mill finally got free from the courts to only become a slave to the league that helped make it possible.

It was only a matter of time the NFL would decide to monetize social justice through T-shirts and Meghan Trainor songs. White people did it with the blues, they did it with Jazz, they did it with rap, and now they’re doing it with outrage over black males murdered by the police.

The thing I don’t get about this Jay-Z & NFL deal is that the league has booked performers just fine & they have been making money off of social causes for years through apparel (breast cancer, salute to service, etc.) None of this feels special or unique. Feels exploitative.

The other way to look at it is that music has always been a form of protest, the fact that you are able to launch protest music to an NFL audience monthly is huge. Imagine the message you can send through music, monthly!?

Plus, money is being put into social programs including police and community relations.
