A married couple, who both worked as executives at Nike, tragically lost their lives this week when they got struck by a load of lumber that fell off a truck right in front of them.
The Deaton couple, aged 52 and 48 respectively, were riding their bikes on Silverado Trail in Napa Valley around 11 a.m. on Tuesday when a flatbed truck loaded with lumber attempted to overtake them.
The truck was going about 40mph in a 55mph zone. As it drove past the couple, the lumber on the back of the truck had moved to the right and hit them.
Christian died right there, while Michelle unfortunately didn’t make it and passed away later in the hospital.
The truck driver, who was 55 years old, stuck around and worked with the investigators.
