The latest single from Olivia Rodrigo, “drop dead,” debuted at the top spot on the global Spotify charts with 10.71 million streams, making it the most significant release debut of her career and also the best debut for a female artist on the platform this year.
The track continues the trend for Rodrigo’s lead singles, where “drivers license” debuted with 1.54 million streams in 2021. Her next lead single, “vampire,” saw her break records when it debuted with 9.79 million streams. This number is now surpassed by her latest song, “drop dead,” by about another million streams.
Despite its massive number of streams, the track ranks fourth on the global Spotify charts this year, with “SWIM” holding the record at 14.64 million streams. Other songs that have made the top five are “Aperture” with 12.47 million streams and “Body to Body” with 11.18 million streams. The rest of the top ten spots are held by tracks such as “Hooligan,” “American Girls,” “FYA,” “Aliens,” “2.0,” and “Merry Go Round.”
Nonetheless, “drop dead” is still the highest-debuting song by any female artist on this chart list.
