Overtime Megan is usually associated with red-hot sports commentary, viral relationship rumors, and fit selfies, not passionate civics lessons, but the newly sworn-in Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, has formally launched Megan’s career as a political commentator.
The famous content creator took to the social app Snapchat to spread his angry rant, insisting to his followers that a “huge loss for New York City” has been incurred because of the winning Democratic-Socialist political agenda of Mamdani.
And, yes, even a new hat made an appearance.
”I Was Literally Taught This In Middle School.”
In the story posts, Megan introduced a political tangent by saying she only gets involved in the fray when the headlines making history stop dropping, and the Mamdani famine, to her, is a five-alarm fire.
“‘I mean, so I only really get political once a big event has occurred, and this is a huge loss for New York City,’ she said.
She then embarked on a very dramatic civic memory lane as follows:
“Not only do we learn this in history class, in government class, like I think I remember learning this in middle school, once you accept socialism and once you let it in and once you lower your guard, down, that’s where they get you. That’s where you start a slippery slope.”
In Megan’s opinion, being “woke” has become a misguided guide, where everyone thinks that anything goes, so she questioned how a society without a structure could succeed.
“Where have we ever seen a place where we don’t reward people for hard work and doing the right thing succeed?”
A Hat Is a Statement
In true influencer fashion, the debate became trendy.
“I usually wear a red Lululemon hat, which could be an indication of my politics,” Megan explained, “but today, a bolder approach is needed.”
“Well, so I went and got myself this hat today. Normally, though, I wear my red Lululemon one. but then I decided, you know, let me go get myself a little cute gold one instead.”
Even though she didn’t go on to define the symbolic meaning, the color change seemed very deliberate–no longer subtle.
“We’ve Lost The Plot”
The influencer then moved on to a philosophical plea, saying, “The question isn’t Democratic versus Republican; it’s socialism.”
“I mean, I live in a blue city. I live in a very liberal city. And it always is going to be like this, most likely. But I think a line has been crossed. A huge line has been crossed.”
In her opinion, a lack of policy has become New York’s notion of niceness, a toothless version of the “rule of law” to avoid offense, and today it hangs on the brink of self-destruction
“’Who are we offending?’ No, we’re the downfall of ourselves, actually.”
But a city can fall apart much quicker than we think. That’s what she warned. A city does not start becoming a chaotic mess overnight
“Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor was New York City. But it can easily be destroyed in a day. And it’s nearly happened before. And we’re so close to it happening again.”
“Your Values Might Actually Be Red”
Directly addressing her followers, especially the progressive ones, Megan made a final argument: check your values before they check you.
“For all of you that are on the left, a little more extreme on the left, a little more into their liberalism, I encourage you to take a good, hard, long look at what your values really are, because you may shock yourself.”
“Many people in secret share red values, but they’re afraid to voice it because it has been villainized, especially the right-wing,” she continued.
“That’s my rant, and hope you guys have a great”
