What’s New On HBO Max This April

What’s New On HBO Max This April

HBO Max announces programming coming to the platform this April, including the premiere of the limited series LOVE & DEATH (4/27), based on a true story of Candy (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pat Montgomery (Patrick Fugit) and Betty (Lily Rabe) and Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons) – two churchgoing couples enjoying their small town Texas life… until an extramarital affair leads somebody to pick up an axe.

In the explosive and hilarious fourth and final chapter of BARRY (4/16), Cousineau (Henry Winkler) is hailed as a hero as Barry’s (Bill Hader) arrest has shocking consequences. It’s all been leading up to this.

SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE (4/23) returns for its second season, following Sam (Everett), a true Kansan on the surface but, beneath it all, struggling to fit the hometown mold. This season reminds us that families are hard, even fun ones. Sam and Joel (Jeff Hiller) have settled into a comfy routine. But nothing stays the same forever.

The narrative sketch comedy series A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW (4/14) returns for its fourth season. It features a core cast of Black women living relatable and hilarious experiences in a magical reality that subverts traditional expectations.

100 FOOT WAVE (4/16) returns to Nazaré, Portugal—with stops in Hawaii and California—for a heart-pounding and adrenaline-filled second season following big wave legend Garrett McNamara, his world-class surfing peers, and some surprising newcomers as they continue to push the boundaries of their sport and the limits of their minds and bodies.

An existential and irreverent animated comedy series, FIRED ON MARS (4/20)explores the precarious relationship between work and self… light years away from Earth. Jeff Cooper (Luke Wilson) has it all: a fulfilling career as the graphic designer for space start-up Mars.ly, a relationship with his soon-to-be Red Planet-bound girlfriend, Hannah, and… well, maybe that’s it. But when his bosses unceremoniously eliminate his role, Jeff finds himself jobless and unable to return to Earth. Adrift aboard the sprawling office colony, Jeff must reinvent himself to find meaning in a dangerous, alien, yet all-too-familiar corporate landscape.

In the mid-season premiere of the final season of TITANS (4/13), the Titans – except for Gar – are returned to the Temple of Trigon and rush to find Sebastian and Mother Mayhem before Sebastian summons Trigon. Along the way, they encounter a prophecy that may require Kory to make a huge sacrifice to save the world. In the final episodes, the Titans enter an epic battle to save Kory and the world.

What’s New On HBO Max This February

What’s New On HBO Max This February

HBO Max announces programming coming to the platform this month, including the Oscar®-nominated film EMPIRE OF LIGHT (2/7). The film, directed by Sam Mendes, is about the power of human connection during turbulent times. Hilary (Olivia Colman), a cinema manager struggling with depression, and Stephen (Micheal Ward), a new employee longing to escape the provincial town where he faces daily adversity find a sense of belonging and experience the healing power of music, cinema, and community.

Oscar®-nominated HBO documentary ALL THAT BREATHES (2/7), directed by Shaunak Sen, follows two brothers who devote their lives to the quixotic effort of protecting the black kite, a majestic bird of prey essential to the ecosystem of New Delhi that has been falling from the sky at alarming rates.

PUPPY BOWL XIX (2/12), the original and longest-running call-to-adoption TV event returns for its 19th year on Animal Planet, TBS, and streaming on HBO Max and discovery+. The three-hour television matchup will showcase more puppies, more animal shelters and rescues, and more inspiring adoption stories than ever before as the puppy players from Team Ruff and Team Fluff take to the gridiron in the Puppy Bowl stadium to win the Wayfair “Lombarky” trophy.

LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER (2/19) returns for its tenth season for more satirical, insightful, and meticulously researched looks at current events in the U.S. and around the globe. The weekly series features Oliver’s hilarious, expertly honed perspective on today’s pressing political, social, and cultural issues, as well as lesser-reported topics that both inform and entertain. Shot in New York, season ten features the show’s weekly topical insights, signature deep dives, and distinctive comedy pieces.

Legendary comedian and podcaster Marc Maron stars in his first-ever HBO comedy special filmed in front of a live audience at New York City’s Town Hall. Over a hilarious and deeply personal hour, Maron explores such universal topics as getting older, antisemitism and faith, and the superiority of having cats over children – especially during the pandemic. The comedian also opens up about the loss of his partner in 2020 and reestablishing his complicated relationship with his father. Funny and fearless, MARC MARON: FROM BLEAK TO DARK (2/11) showcases the comedian’s expertly layered cynicism as he deftly weaves humor and pathos into his signature style of storytelling.

HARLEY QUINN: A VERY PROBLEMATIC VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL (2/9) follows Harley as she goes to obsessive lengths to ensure that her first Valentine’s Day with Ivy is the best and Bane’s efforts to impress an unexpected date go awry. Meanwhile, after an unfortunate online dating encounter, Clayface engages in some self-love.

This month also brings The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) shorts to the platform on February 1, which includes HBO Short Film Award winner ANOTHER COUNTRY along with finalists TALK BLACK, THE FAMILY MEETING, and PENS & PENCILS.

In addition, HBO Max has several more Oscar®-nominated films available to stream, including BANSHEES of INISHERIN, THE BATMAN, ELVIS, and NAVALNY, from CNN Films, HBO Max, and Warner Bros. Pictures, which follows Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny through his political rise, attempted assassination and search to uncover the truth.

Another batch of discovery+ titles will be coming to HBO Max on February 1st, including season one of LOVE OFF THE GRID, HUNGRY FOR ANSWERS, THE GREAT SOUL FOOD COOK OFF, and THE CULPO SISTERS.

What’s New On HBO Max This December

What’s New On HBO Max This December

HBO Max announces everything coming to the platform this December including the third and final season of HIS DARK MATERIALS (12/5), based on “The Amber Spyglass,” the final novel in Philip Pullman’s award-winning trilogy. In the final chapter of this epic fantasy series, Lyra (Dafne Keen), the prophesied child, and Will (Amir Wilson), the bearer of The Subtle Knife, must journey to a dark place from which no one has ever returned. But as her father’s great war against the Authority edges closer, they will learn that saving the world comes at a terrible price.

GOSSIP GIRL (12/1) is leaving no stone unturned in her effort to control the scandalous lives/spin the scandalous lies of Manhattan’s elite. She’s learned a thing or two from her first go-round — namely what her audience wants, they shall get. It’s time for her to turn the heat up on what’s been simmering as well as look at her impact, and how she can make it more catastrophic than it was before.

December also brings the fourth season of DOOM PATROL (12/8), which opens with the team unexpectedly traveling to the future to find an unwelcome surprise. Faced with their imminent demise, the Doom Patrol must decide once and for all which is more important: their happiness or the fate of the world?

From creators Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle, and Sultan Salahuddin, SOUTH SIDE (12/8) follow Simon (Sultan Salahuddin) and K (Kareme Young), two enterprising best friends hustling and dreaming their way through the Windy City – when they’re not too busy working as furniture repo men at the local Rent-T-Own. Shot on location in Chicago, the series also features cunning Sergeant Turner (Chandra Russell) and her clueless partner Officer Goodnight (Bashir Salahuddin), questionable local politician Allen Gayle (Diallo Riddle), and an ever-expanding roster of real-life Chicago residents, offering a glimpse at what it’s like to live on the South Side.

The second season of SORT OF (12/1) is the season of love. Love includes friends, family, work, romantic love, and, most importantly, one’s self-love. Sabi decides that not only are they ready for some uncomplicated romance, but they also want everyone to love each other. Unfortunately, Sabi is faced with situations and relationships that are anything but simple, including their dad’s unexpected return from Dubai, the Kaneko-Bauers’ struggles as Bessy is released from rehab, and issues at Bar Bük.

Four-part docuseries BRANSON (12/1) takes viewers on an expansive and intimate 70-year journey, from Richard Branson’s upbringing as the son of a spirited, tough-love mother in Britain, to his pursuits of extreme, personal daredevilry that serve both to grow his businesses’ brands and feed his insatiable, lifelong thirst for high-stakes adventure.

Artist, musician, and filmmaker Terence Nance returns with a long-awaited second season of the acclaimed series RANDOM ACTS OF FLYNESS, which explores the metaphysics of Black life through avant-garde storytelling. Season two follows Terence and Najja (Alicia Pilgrim), a couple working towards healing generational wounds and reintroducing themselves to the ways of their ancestors. Each of the season’s six episodes explores a different dimension while presenting a rich tapestry of audio-visuals to illustrate the spiritual practice of Black liberation.

A HOLLYWOOD CHRISTMAS (12/1)follows Jessica, a young, up-and-coming filmmaker in Hollywood who has made a name for herself directing Christmas movies. But when handsome network executive Christopher shows up threatening to halt production on her latest movie, Jessica’s assistant, Reena, points out the irony: Jessica isn’t just trying to save her Christmas movie, she’s living in one.

Another batch of discovery+ titles will be coming to HBO Max on December 14 which will include SERVING THE HAMPTONS, SELLING THE HAMPTONS, TRIXIE MOTEL, and QUEEN OF VERSAILLES REIGNS AGAIN. Magnolia Network’s SILOS BAKING COMPETITION: HOLIDAY EDITION (12/9), which follows five home bakers across the country that are challenged to perfect a favorite holiday cookie recipe for a $25,000 cash price and a chance to have their winning treat featured on the menu in December at Chip and Joanna’s bakery, Silos Baking Co. Joining Joanna Gaines at the judges’ table are guest judges Andrew Zimmern (Family Dinner) and Zoë François (Zoë Bakes) will also make its way to the platform this month.

HBO Max is offering a limited-time savings of 80% on the first three months of the ad-supported subscription for Black Friday. For new and returning customers in the United States, the ad-supported subscription of HBO Max will be offered at $1.99/month for the first three months. The offer ends Monday, November 28.

It was also the #2 most-watched non-sports program overall on Sunday for viewers 18-49, second only to House of the Dragon.

After season five’s climactic ending, the highly-anticipated season six premiere episode “Solaricks” follows Rick, Morty, and the rest of the Smith family as they deal with the fallout.

“A lot was going on this weekend between heat waves, holidays, and fantasy blockbusters, and fans still showed up for the best-made animated sitcom,” said Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network.

Rick and Morty was the #1 comedy across all US cable in 2017, 2019, and 2021. Since its launch, Rick and Morty ranks as one of the top series for HBO Max, both domestically and globally. Lifetime to date, Rick and Morty have been viewed over 10B times globally, across linear, digital, and streaming.

Adult Swim, the leader in adult animation, announced today that the two-time Emmy® award-winning comedy series Rick and Morty will premiere globally and across the multiverse, starting on Sunday, September 4th at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.

“It’s hard to overstate the impact of Rick and Morty. More than a hit show, it is truly a global phenomenon,” said Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network.

“As we prepare to launch this soon-to-be iconic season, we will be giving fans a unique way to be part of the fun – so keep your eyes peeled.”

Rick and Morty is the Emmy® award-award-winning half-hour animated hit comedy series on Adult Swim that follows a sociopathic genius scientist who drags his inherently timid grandson on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe. Rick Sanchez is living with his daughter Beth’s family and constantly bringing her, his son-in-law Jerry, granddaughter Summer, and grandson Morty into intergalactic escapades.

It’s season six and Rick and Morty are back! Pick up where we left them, worse for wear and down on their luck. Will they manage to bounce back for more adventures? Or will they get swept up in an ocean of piss! Who knows?! Piss! Family! Intrigue! A bunch of dinosaurs! More piss! Another can’t miss a season of your favorite show.

Rick and Morty stars Justin Roiland (Solar Opposites), Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live), and Spencer Grammer (Greek). The series is created by Dan Harmon (Community) and Roiland, who also serve as executive producers.
