Paige Spiranac took part in a costume round during Halloween, wearing a pink Princess Peach outfit with a crown and corset, and said it challenged her nerves more than her skills.
“This is like exposure therapy times 100,” Spiranac commented on her YouTube channel.
The golfer played solo in Florida, as no one agreed to join Spiranac in such an unusual round.
“Hey everyone, it’s Paige, or should I say Peachy,” she said as the video opened. “I’m decked in my favorite color, and people say I don’t have any shame, and I’m feeling kind of shameful right now. But you know what? It’s Halloween. You know what they say about Halloween. You can’t say anything bad about me today.”
Her strapless costume was quite distracting.
“I am so distracted. I cannot stop thinking about my b***s right now,” Spiranac said. “When I put this outfit together, I honestly didn’t try it on until I just changed in the car. And I didn’t really think this one through.”
During the game, Spiranac looked at herself between hits.
“If you see me after every shot, look down. I’m just checking,” she said. “I am just checking.”
As she mentioned in the video, Spiranac’s favorite character is Princess Peach.
“Who doesn’t want to be a princess for a day? And pink is my favorite color. So, it just made so much sense,” she shared her thoughts about the character.
Spiranac dressed up for Halloween 31 times in October over the past several years; however, she wore her costume on the course only once.
“Not that really anything I wear is golf course appropriate, but I thought this was a fun one to break out,” the golfer noted.
The month-long costume project helped Spiranac develop a love of cosplay, including characters like Cammy from Street Fighter, Velma from Scooby-Doo, Pamela Anderson from Baywatch, other superheroes, and even some Disney characters.
At the end of the video, Spiranac shared a photo of herself in the new costume and said it might become her favorite picture.
The reaction on the course is instant.
“I’m used to people kind of giving me weird looks on the golf course, but this is next level,” Spiranac said. Later, she added, “There is a cart stopped and is very confused on what is happening right now.”
There was a small twist during the round: Spiranac carried a trick-or-treat bag and drew each other shot to determine whether she would be better or worse during the game.
At first, she drew three mushrooms, which let her hit the ball 30 yards farther.
“This is the best pull ever,” she said. “Everyone feels bad for me.”
She started the round with par and decided her costume really helped during the game.
“I actually think the costume is helping my golf swing,” Spiranac said. “One, I have to keep my crown on my head. And so I have to keep my head more still.”
She pointed out that due to boning, she was not able to move a lot and keep her body at the right angle while swinging. In addition, the corset forced her to use shorter swings.
“So, if you are trying to get a nice short compact swing, maybe what you need to do is get a corset,” she said. “I think this might be my next big training aid breakthrough in golf. And all you needed was a corset to make sure your t*****s don’t fall out.”
“Straps are important,” she added. “Straps are important, and that is something that I know now.”
Putting was another difficult activity.
“Oh my gosh. I can’t really bend down in this,” she said while lining up a putt. “I know you had visions of me in a costume playing golf and it didn’t include that. I know that wasn’t sexy.”
On the second hole (par 5 with water on the left), she made a par and said it was a missed chance because “it was supposed to destroy par-five hole.”
On the third one (par 4), the turtle was in her bag, which meant there were no practice swings.
“Didn’t realize being a princess came with taking all my rights away from me,” Spiranac said, calling this situation “Damsel in distress. Can’t take a practice swing.”
Her approach ended up in the rough and near a pond. “I hope that’s not an alligator,” she stated. “We’re in Florida, and I just heard something jump in the water.”
Spiranac keeps bumping her crown on the cart.
“I feel that’s like a metaphor for my life where everyone’s trying to knock my freaking crown off my head and just let me be a princess,” she concluded.
And rolled in a birdie putt.
“That’s a birdie. That is a birdie,” Spiranac shouted. “I made a birdie. One under.”
“I’m never, never taking practice swings ever again,” she joked.
On the fourth hole (par 3), a house stood behind it. The golfer got a bogey after her putt was on the edge of the hole and moved back.
“I’m doing this thing where I make birdie then I make bogey immediately after, and it’s been p***ing me off,” she said. “There’s nothing that feels more demoralizing than making a bogey in this outfit.”
Two groups of golfers approached the hole.
“I am so self-conscious right now. There’s been like two groups of foursomes that have come up, and I just want to crawl in a hole and die,” Spiranac said. “You guys say I never do anything for you. I am sacrificing the small amount of dignity that I have left for you and for your entertainment to make a really kick a** video.”
The fifth hole was a star for Spiranac, and that means she gets a free hit on the whole hole. It rained during this hole, however.
“And now it’s raining. It’s just raining on my parade,” she said. “Princesses don’t normally play in the rain. I feel like this is beneath a princess, but for you, I’ll do it.”
The golfer joked that her fans often ask her to play in the rain. “I feel like this is just turning into your wet d**** right now,” she said.
Spiranac placed an umbrella over her arm for putting, calling herself her own caddie.
“This might be the most genius thing I’ve ever thought of,” she said. After saving par, she added, “Women in STEM. Always thinking of new things.”
She handed back the umbrella, saying, “You can probably sell this for thousands of dollars now, though. Who needs bath water when you can just have an umbrella? We’ve lost the plot.”
Later, Spiranac discovered she hadn’t used the mulligan. “Such a blonde moment from me,” she admitted.
The sixth hole (par 5) was her last, and she fought with the rain, with wind and corset.
“I feel like that’s how Bowser would swing,” she said. “I don’t feel like I’m swinging like Peachy here.”
Her grip started to fail her, and she joked later, letting out a snort. “This did actually start out quite sexy, and now it’s just not.”
With her wet hair, Spiranac tied it up and successfully made the last putt for birdie.
“And that is a wrap. I’m done. I’ve done all I can,” Spiranac admitted. “Nine holes is just not happening. Six holes just feels right.”
Spiranac made 1 under par through six holes.
After each hole, Spiranac exchanged the scorecard for stories and confessions.
According to Spiranac, the costume held special meaning for her because of her childhood nickname.
“I identify with Miss Peachy here because when I was in elementary school, I was pretty introverted and shy, and so I didn’t speak that much,” she said. “And one of the older kids asked me what my name was and I said Paige, but it sounded like Peach. So people called me Peach for the longest time.”
She also mentioned she usually played like Peach or Yoshi in Mario Kart and was from an Xbox family. “But Peach was always my girl,” she said.
Discussing the Halloween candy, Spiranac called herself a gummy girl who also prefers chocolate candies, especially the Reese’s.
“I actually prefer Milky Way over Snickers,” the golfer said. “Which I know is a very hot take, but hey, girl likes what she likes.”
She also defended her Tootsie Rolls, which she preferred among lemon, lime, and orange. No one else in her family disliked them, and she exchanged them for extra candies.
According to Spiranac, she was never the pillowcase kid.
“My parents took me trick-or-treating with a basket. And I brought this basket home being empty, and I came out if I still wanted something,” she explained, adding, “I always felt jealous of those pillowcases because it looked like they had freedom.”
“Have fun. Go trick-or-treating with your pillowcases because that’s the cool way to do it,” she added.
She described different kinds of houses that gave full-size bars on Halloween, up to a nearby dentist who gave toothbrushes and toothpaste.
“I was like, ‘Bro, come on,'” she said. “This holiday is going to make you so much money.”
According to Spiranac, it was the holiday her mother taught her to celebrate.
“I love talking about my mom, and you also love my mom. I think this is where I get it all from,” she said. “She was a lover of Halloween, and she’d go all out all the time.”
Her mother even dressed as the Bride of Frankenstein, decorated the whole house, and helped Spiranac prepare outfits for her calendar.
“She’s going to be so excited about this,” Spiranac said about her mother, adding, “I don’t think I’ve told her yet.”
It is a round that brought Spiranac some doubts. Once, a woman golfer gave her a displeased look.
“It’s like when they probably saw Sydney Sweeney’s ad for the first time,” she said. “There’s four women golfers over there and I don’t want to be judged, but I put myself in this position and yet I’m scared of being judged.”
Actually, she would like to change something with her opinions on the course.
“Deep down, I love dressing up and being goofy and silly and not taking myself seriously,” Spiranac said. “And sometimes I think I let the judgment of others or potential judgment of others stop me from really being my truest, most fun self.”
“If we’re both having fun and we’re not hurting anyone, then it shouldn’t matter,” she said. “So, we’re having fun. So much fun, actually. And maybe I’ll turn this into a thing. Costume golf.”
There were the critics who say Spiranac acts disrespectfully on the course.
“Make sure your course is okay with it. We asked, and they said this was okay,” she said. “So for everyone saying in the comments, I’m always disrespectful. I’m not. We asked for permission, and they said yes.”
Golf gloves, a pink skirt, a choker, and a crown Spiranac got from Amazon, plus a pink necklace from London Jewelers.
At the finish line, Spiranac put her jacket back and removed the crown.
“Heavy is the head that wears the crown,” she said. “It was nice feeling like a princess for a day.”
